What I Learned On A 53 km Walk
So I set out with a mission—to make some noise about the pivotal role that fitness plays in our mental well-being. I'm a firm believer that understanding this connection is key, especially in the whirlwind of today's world.
Now, when I wrapped up that 53km walk it was like hitting a new level of post-workout euphoria. I had never had a post workout glow like it. The sense of accomplishment was palpable, and it got me thinking about the profound impact fitness has on our mental state.
Sure, my walk might seem a bit extreme, but here's the truth—fitness doesn't and shouldn’t be this massive, all-or-nothing endeavor. It's the consistency of those shorter, manageable efforts that truly count when it comes to maintaining mental clarity.
Studies are overwhelmingly in favour of exercise as a powerhouse when it comes to handling mild to moderate anxiety and depression as well as everyday stress.
So, let's reshape our perspective on fitness…
It's not just about sculpting the perfect physique, 6 pack abs or an hourglass figure (although there’s nothing wrong with striving for that).
It's a legitimate mental health tool….
…we'll call it “Iron Therapy”.
The real beauty lies in those everyday efforts, those concise workouts that accumulate and play a significant role in keeping our mental game strong.
There is something medicinal about struggling physically. To take all of your energy and put it into physical effort gives you such a freeing feeling. You rid yourself of the day's stressors and build up mental toxins.
Find what you love to do and go do it.
Struggle.
Go try something..

Total was 53.27 km's. A little short of the goal but I gave it everything.
Go out and do something. Don't be afraid to fail.
