There is so much to discover when we are given the time to slow down and explore. 🌿

From peaceful walks through the forest to spotting tiny mushrooms, watching birds, and peering into the water to see what we can find, every day is filled with new adventures and moments of wonder.

Some of the most meaningful memories are made simply by spending time outside, asking questions, getting curious, and seeing the world through fresh eyes.

If you’re looking for a summer experience where your child can explore, make friends, and connect with nature, we’d love to welcome them.

Another little red-breasted nuthatch decided to make a new friend this week. 🐦💚

One of our favourite things about nature is that you can’t plan moments like these.

Our campers were so calm and gentle that this tiny bird felt safe enough to land right beside them.

Sometimes the most magical part of the day is simply standing still. 🌿

Have you ever had a wild bird land on you?

🐦 Follow for more moments that remind us how amazing nature can be.

We had so much fun today on our trip to the McMaster Biology Greenhouse!🪴

Our campers had the chance to see many different types of plants 🌱, including the Touch-Me-Not plant, banana trees 🍌, Venus Fly Traps, and many cacti! 🌵 At the end of the tour, they were able to look at a few interesting leaves under a microscope!🔬

More cutie red-breasted nuthatches!!!!
Last week our campers were spending time quietly in nature when a friendly little red-breasted nuthatch decided to land right on a few of them!
There were lots of smiles, laughter, and wide eyes as everyone enjoyed such a special encounter. It’s amazing how curious and friendly these little birds can be when people slow down and give them space.

Moments like these are one of the many reasons we love spending our days outdoors at Little Apples Nature Camp. Nature has a wonderful way of surprising us!!!🥰🍏

After spending lots of time indoors last week, it has been so amazing to be back out on the trails again this week! 🥾🌲

Today we took our first trip to Princess Point so far this summer, and ate lunch outside by the water. We saw many different creatures like swans 🦢, ducks 🦆, cormorants, egrets, and even a Great Blue Heron!

We are looking forward to even more adventures as we near the end of the week! 🍏

Although we didn’t get to spend as much time outside this week due to extreme heat and poor air quality, our campers still made the most out of the circumstances!

When we couldn’t go outside, we brought the outside to us! ☀️ We spent the week crafting away, making coffee filter flowers🌹, pinecone creatures🌲, clay sculptures🏺, bird crowns 🦜, and even planted Zinnia flowers! 💐

We are looking forward to better weather next week so that we can get back out on the trails! 🥾

It was an amazing first week here at Little Apples Nature Camp! 🍏

Our campers lived out our core values through their curiosity during hikes, their enthusiasm for animals, (bugs especially🪲) and their creative imaginations.

Some of our favourite moments from this week were our trip to the McMaster Biology Greenhouse 🌱, our hike and storybook reading with guest speaker and children’s author Robin Whaling 📚, our Nature mandalas activity 🌿, and of course, our hikes through the beautiful Cootes Paradise Nature Trails 🥾.

We hope to see some new and old faces join in on the fun this summer! ☀️🍏🐛

This Thursday, we’re thrilled to welcome local authors Robin Whaling and Rhonneke Van Riezen to Little Apples! Robin is a teacher and Rhonneke is a fluvial geomorphologist, and together they co-authored A Fluvial What’s It Now? Adventures of a Fluvial Geomorphologist.

Their book introduces children to the exciting world of geoscience while encouraging them to observe, question, explore, and play whenever they’re outdoors. During their visit, our campers will enjoy a special author presentation followed by a special guided hike by our guests, where they’ll put their observation skills into practice and discover the fascinating science happening all around them. We’re so excited to welcome them and know it will be a memorable morning of learning and exploration!
