Len Thompson came home from the first World War to the little town of Abernathy and picked up where he had left off, farming and in his spare time, fishing in the nearby calling lakes system. Not satisfied with the store-bought lures Len began fashioning his own, carrying tools including a ball peen hammer in his tackle box. In 1929 he started Len Thompson's Bullet and Bait and ran it part time out of the farm. And in 1945 Len took a leap; he arranged suppliers, built and outfitted a factory in Abernathy and began making and marketing his fishing lures. Len Thompson Bait Company relocated to Lacombe, Alberta in 1958 and will be celebrating 100 years as a family owned and operated business in 2029. Since 1929 over 50 million lures have been made and sold worldwide. The five of diamonds come in a number of colours, the original is yellow with black diamonds which Len could discern as he was colour blind.

Some places just feel like they’re meant for slow mornings, late fires, and good company…
We’ve been working on something behind the scenes 👀

There’s something special about quiet sunrise mornings with a coffee in hand and a view like this… and evenings that slow down just enough to take in a sunset glow over the bay.
At Wilson’s Adventures, we’ve been working behind the scenes on something new — something that lets you stay a little longer and soak it all in.
It’s not quite ready to share… but it’s coming. Are you ready?!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out, braved the cold, and made some awesome memories in the shacks this year. You’re the reason we do what we do!
If you had a great time (and hopefully caught a few good ones 😉), I’d love if you could leave a review on our page. It helps spread the word and keeps my business growing!

Nothing makes our day more than seeing your catches out on the ice! 🎣 ❄️
We’ve been getting some awesome photos from clients this season, and let me tell you… there are some beauties coming out of these shacks! Pike, walleye, and a whole lot of proud smiles — exactly what it’s all about.
If you’ve been out with us, don’t be shy — send us your photos! Whether it’s your biggest catch, your kid’s first fish, or just a great day on the ice, we’d love to share it (with your permission, of course).
As the 2025/26 season comes to an end, let’s show everyone what kind of memories are being made out here! Keep those lines tight and the pictures coming! ❄️🐟

Important reminder for eligible, recreational anglers: annual sportfishing licences expire on March 31 every year.
Ensure you renew your licence before heading back out onto the water. Licences can be renewed online or in person at one of Alberta’s many licence issuers.
Through online renewal, anglers can also opt for auto-renewal, ensuring you never forget to purchase your sportfishing licence.

Not a bad way to take a break!
Running a business doesn’t mean I miss out on the good stuff. Every now and then, I step away from the grind, head out onto the ice, and remind myself why I love this life so much.
Today was one of those days… and it paid off with a beauty of a pike! 🎣 ❄️
There’s nothing quite like being out in the shack, lines down, quiet all around, and then—boom—fish on. Moments like this are exactly what I hope everyone gets to experience when they book with us.
Work hard, fish harder… and yes, the ice is still treating us pretty well out here. 😉
