We finally have snow and there's more coming!! We encourage residents to embrace winter and get outside and be active and have fun. For individuals and families we are holding a winter promotion on our equipment rentals - you can rent a set of cross country skis for $10 week and snowshoes for $5 /week. There are also daily rates available. Please be sure to call ahead to reserve and for more details at 902 787 2274.

Friendly Reminder Port Hood Triathlon is scheduled for August 10, 2014. See below for upcoming officials course.

This course is ideal for people new to officiating and also serves as a refresher course for those who may not have taken a course in a few years. Level 1 and Level 2. Level 2 is a requirement for all race directors.

There is no cost to take this course but you must preregister by Thursday 5th June.

• Outdoor Leadership hiking Level 1 Course: An introduction to Hiking Leadership will be held on November 15-17, at the St. Joseph’s Renewal Centre, Mabou, NS and on local trails. This nationally recognized course will provide participants with the Outdoor Council of Canada training in Leadership Level 1 (Hiking) as well as the skills to organize and lead others in a one day, educational or activity based experience in a natural environment.
The program is suitable for teachers, 4H leaders, Scout leaders, Girl Guide leaders, parents or individuals interested in leading hikes. It is offered by Tim White of Rising Tide Expeditions (OCC certified instructor) in partnership with The Municipality of Inverness County. To be hiking leaders, participants should have some hiking experience and be able to participate in a low risk natural environment hike on a designated trail while carrying what they will need for the day out. Participants who successfully meet the course outcomes will earn Outdoor Council of Canada Leadership Level 1 (Hiking) certification and the necessary skills to be a confident hiking leader. For further information regarding LL1 Certification, please see www.outdoorcouncil.ca.

Women in Sport Encouragement (WISE) Fund: CAAWS Women in Sport Encouragement WISE Fund supports the development of women leaders and support organizations that are currently offering or creating sport programs targeted to girls and women. CAAWS awards 12 WISE Fund grants annually, each valued at $900. Applications will be accepted between November 18 and December 6, 2013.
