We had fun at the Cowgirls Dream Ranch Gamblers Choice show! What a fun way to train the horses and expose them to different types of obstacles and a setting that is set up for success. The horses have an hour and a half for the warm up where you get to practice over the different obstacles. Then when it comes time for the gamblers choice round you get a few minutes in the ring to score as many points as you can doing the obstacles that you choose to do, you can do any obstacle twice but you have to do another obstacle in between. This means you can choose the obstacles that are well suited to you and your horse.
Then when the show is done you can go back in and redo an obstacle to make sure that your horse ends on a positive note.
Such a fantastic setup and we all had a lot of fun, Bunny, Moon, Robin and Alfie (he was at the trailer and missed this photo) earned lots of cookies and had a great time.... The humans also earned cookies and had a great time.

Starting to hit the grass in stride.
It's lovely to see the horses starting to get out on the grass and enjoying having fresh pasture. It's a very short-lived season in Ontario. Most of our pastures we won't open until May to make sure the grass is established.
Usually by the end of August the grass growing season is over and quite dry. September everything stops growing. So when you think about it there's only 3-4 months of grass in Ontario grazing. We're very reliant on hay. Compared to south in Kentucky, the grass growing season is optimal for many more months of the year. Hmmm Makes sense why KY became a popular destination for horse farms. However we're happy to here and making the most of the warmer weather.
