This class is extraordinary because it is geared toward empowering women with a new set of skills, self-confidence, positive energy, and physical training. These elements affect every aspect of life. Each class is different, with the usual calestetics to build core strength, and cardio to build endurance. This program was created to accomodate women from beginners, to athletes who want to compete.

Sarah Draht, a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, is offering up her years of experience to women in Kelowna.
Draht will be running a self-defence workshop and offering up a few free spots to women who are interested.
"My goal is for this to reach the ladies that really need the workshop, creating a positive shift in their life," she said.
Draht says since the outbreak of Covid-19, emerging data and reports have shown all types of violence against women have intensified.
“Class capacity is limited to optimize learning, so if the workshop fills up, I will open a second workshop with a new time slot and sponsor another woman. I will run as many as necessary, no one will be turned away. These aren’t skills that are just good to have. These skills are necessary," she said.
The workshop entails two parts: The physical techniques, and the psychology.
“Most self-defence workshops will teach women to kick and punch their attacker as their first line of defence. I do not teach this because of the risks associated."
"Kicking and punching can easily escalate the situation making a bad situation much worse. Sure, there may be times a person might kick or punch, I am not discrediting that. But it is one piece of a thousand-piece puzzle. Commonly only that one piece is taught. I teach everything, I teach the entire picture.
"The defence starts before the attack, and this does not mean living in fear. In fact, far from it. If an individual has the tools and knowledge they will not only be safer, but it will be possible to live their life nearly free of fear. This is not just my work, this is my passion," Draht added.
The workshop will be held every Thursday evening in May from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. at The Yard Kelowna, #202 – 880 Clement Ave.
