Did you know playgrounds help kids build skills they’ll use far beyond the play space? 🌟
A thoughtfully designed playground can support:
🤝 Social skills through shared play, turn-taking, and teamwork
💡 Problem-solving as kids test ideas, take safe risks, and figure things out
💪 Confidence through climbing, balancing, swinging, and trying again
🌈 Imagination through open-ended play, storytelling, and creative exploration
🧠 Physical and cognitive development through movement, coordination, and sensory-rich experiences
That’s why playground planning matters. Every climber, slide, swing, pathway, and gathering space has the potential to shape how kids grow, connect, and experience their community.
At Parkworks, we help communities create play spaces that are fun, functional, inclusive, and built for real-life use.

📍 Midfield Heights, Calgary, AB
A buzz-worthy new play destination is bringing big energy to Midfield Heights. 🐝🌿
Inspired by pollinators and designed to spark connection from day one, this vibrant playground brings climbing, balancing, spinning, and exploring to the heart of a growing mixed-use urban village.
Working alongside LA West (Calgary) Inc. and Aecon Group Inc., we helped bring the vision to life with a custom beehive structure from the KOMPAN Design Studio, themed play features, Robinia natural wood elements, and colourful pour-in-place rubber surfacing that carries the pollinator story throughout the space.
Built for immediate impact and long-term performance, this is more than a playground — it’s a welcoming community landmark where families can gather, connect, and feel at home.

✨ Spotlight on Sensory Play ✨
Playgrounds should be full of moments that spark curiosity, connection, and discovery — and sensory play helps make that magic happen. 💚
From sensory tunnels that invite movement and exploration to communication boards that support interaction and self-expression, these thoughtful features create richer play experiences for children with different needs, abilities, and ways of engaging with the world.
At Parkworks, we believe the best play spaces are designed with everyone in mind. Sensory play elements help transform playgrounds into more inclusive, engaging, and memorable destinations where more children can connect, explore, and feel like they belong.
When play is designed thoughtfully, it becomes more than fun — it becomes meaningful.

Join Parkworks and Albert Harris, Brand Development Manager at | mmcité street furniture | for an upcoming virtual CEU on Artificial Intelligence & Place Making!
Artificial Intelligence is changing how we research, document, coordinate, and create. Yes, it is moving fast, but when we shape parks, plazas, streetscapes, and public spaces, technology is only part of the story.
Great place making still starts with people: understanding context, listening to communities, protecting design intent, and making thoughtful decisions that serve real places and real people.🌳
Facilitated by the Alberta Association of Landscape Architects (AALA), this virtual CEU session will show where AI can lend a hand and where human judgment, accountability, and creativity need to lead.
Great places are not generated with the click of a button. They are imagined with care, shaped with purpose, and built for people!
