❤️ PERIMENOPAUSE FACT #15 — Know your HEART numbers

Menopause isn't only a reproductive-health conversation.

Midlife is an important time to know things like your:

❤️ Blood pressure
🧪 Cholesterol/lipids
🍬 Blood glucose
🏃 Activity level
🚭 Smoking status
👨‍👩‍👧 Family history

Cardiovascular disease risk changes with age, and menopause-related biological changes are part of the bigger picture.

Menopause care should include your WHOLE health.

🦴 PERIMENOPAUSE FACT #14 — Estrogen and your BONES

Bone health deserves more attention during menopause.

Estrogen helps regulate bone remodeling. As estrogen levels decline around menopause, bone loss can accelerate.

That's why weight-bearing activity, resistance training, adequate nutrition and assessment of individual osteoporosis risk are important conversations in midlife.

We can't feel our bones getting thinner — prevention matters.

💪 PERIMENOPAUSE FACT #13 — Muscle matters

Want one investment that pays dividends as you age?

Build and protect your muscle.

Maintaining muscle supports strength, mobility, metabolic health, bone health and independence as we get older.

Resistance training isn't just about changing how your body looks.

It's about what you want your body to still be able to DO decades from now.

🏋️ Strong is a long-term health goal.

⚖️ PERIMENOPAUSE FACT #12 — Your body composition may change

“I'm doing the same things I always did…but my body is changing.”

Sound familiar?

The menopause transition is associated with changes in body composition and fat distribution, while aging also contributes to loss of muscle mass and changes in energy needs.

So no — the entire story isn't simply “your metabolism stopped.”

💪 Strength training, adequate nutrition, sleep and regular activity become especially important in midlife.

❤️ PERIMENOPAUSE FACT #11 — Menopause is about more than periods

Estrogen affects tissues throughout the body.

That's one reason the menopause conversation extends beyond hot flashes and periods to include things like:

🦴 Bone health
❤️ Cardiovascular health
🧠 Brain and mood
🌸 Vaginal & urinary health
💪 Body composition

Menopause isn't a disease — but it IS an important stage of women's health.

😤 PERIMENOPAUSE FACT #10 — “Why is EVERYONE annoying me?”

Irritability and mood changes can be part of the menopause transition.

You may notice your tolerance for stress feels different, emotions seem closer to the surface or things that never bothered you suddenly REALLY bother you.

That doesn't mean hormones are responsible for every bad mood.

But significant mood changes deserve to be taken seriously — not dismissed as “just menopause.”

😬 PERIMENOPAUSE FACT #9 — Anxiety can show up differently

Some women describe developing anxiety during perimenopause despite never considering themselves an anxious person before.

Others notice their existing anxiety becomes harder to manage.

Hormonal fluctuations may contribute — but anxiety has MANY possible causes.

New, severe or persistent symptoms shouldn't automatically be written off as hormones.

🧪 PERIMENOPAUSE FACT #8 — Ferritin tells us something different

Have you ever had someone tell you, “Your hemoglobin is normal, so you're fine”?

There's a little more to the story.

Ferritin is a marker used to help assess the iron your body has stored. Iron stores can become depleted before someone develops iron-deficiency anemia.

That's why symptoms + menstrual history + appropriate bloodwork all matter.

If you're experiencing heavy periods AND unexplained fatigue, ask your healthcare provider whether your iron status should be assessed.

🩸 PERIMENOPAUSE FACT #7 — Heavy periods and LOW IRON can go together

Feeling exhausted, weak, short of breath, dizzy or noticing heart palpitations?

If your periods have become significantly heavier or longer during perimenopause, iron deficiency is worth considering.

Repeated blood loss can deplete your body's iron stores over time.

A healthcare provider can assess whether bloodwork, including a CBC and ferritin, is appropriate.

🌸 Sometimes we need to look beyond hormones when investigating how we're feeling.

🩸 PERIMENOPAUSE FACT #6 — Your periods may get HEAVIER

Perimenopause doesn’t always mean your periods slowly become lighter and disappear.

Hormonal and ovulatory changes can cause periods to become heavier, longer, closer together or more unpredictable.

But don’t automatically assume heavy bleeding is “just menopause.”

Very heavy, prolonged or unusual bleeding deserves a conversation with your healthcare provider.
