Unity RCMP handled a variety of calls during the first week of September, including a child found walking alone, a missing person report and a transformer-related fire.

The child was returned to their guardian, the missing person was located, and Unity Fire Department extinguished the fire, which police say was not suspicious.

Community organizations in Rosetown, the Battlefords and Maple Creek are among 15 groups receiving a share of $1.3 million in provincial funding for facility upgrades.

Wheatland Regional Centre in Rosetown will receive support for sensory and acoustic improvements, while Battlefords Residential Services will see bathroom upgrades and exterior repairs.

Leader residents are being asked to weigh in on a proposal to lower the town-wide speed limit from 40 to 30 kilometres per hour.

The town says the proposed change is aimed at improving traffic safety and addressing concerns about unsafe driving speeds. Feedback is being accepted until Sept. 15.

Prairie businesses facing tariff pressures can now apply for expanded federal support through PrairiesCan.

Eligible small- and medium-sized businesses may qualify for up to $3 million in non-repayable funding to help with liquidity, new equipment, automation, market diversification and other projects aimed at adapting to trade disruptions.

High school football is rolling across west-central Saskatchewan, with Rosetown kicking off its season at home this afternoon.

The Royals host Davidson at 1:30 p.m. for their Student Appreciation Game, while more senior and junior action is lined up through Friday and Saturday in Macklin, Biggar, Delisle and Rosetown.

⛽ Federal fuel tax suspension extended into 2027.

The federal government is extending its temporary suspension of the fuel excise tax through Jan. 31, 2027, keeping savings of 10 cents per litre on gasoline and four cents per litre on diesel in place.

History has been made in the SJHL, with Weyburn Red Wings assistant coach Jordan Szczecinski becoming the league’s first female assistant coach.

Szczecinski joined the Red Wings bench for preseason action after years of coaching in Weyburn’s female hockey system. She says the milestone is about keeping doors open for the women who come next.

A Biggar mother is raising concerns about hospital bed shortages and the added costs rural families can face when emergency care is only available far from home.

Amy Haynes says her three-year-old son had to be transferred about 235 kilometres to Prince Albert after beds were unavailable in Saskatoon, North Battleford and Swift Current — resulting in an ambulance bill of more than $1,300.
