Two-sided twisting can be dangerous for an asymmetrical spine. Here’s why: 🔄

If your spine is already rotated to the right, twisting equally to both sides just drives the right side further into rotation while straining the left side.

True structural correction requires asymmetrical rotation.

A lower back hump in scoliosis happens when the spine curves sideways and twists. This rotation makes the bones (transverse processes) push backward against the lower back muscles. It is most clear when you bend forward, and it often causes uneven hips, a tilted waist, or tight lower back muscles

A scoliosis rib hump is a noticeable bulge on one side of the upper back. It happens when thoracic scoliosis twists and rotates the spine, which pulls and rotates the attached ribs backward on the curved side. It is most easy to see when a person bends forward. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Why It Happens

The upper back (thoracic spine) connects directly to your rib cage.

When the spine curves sideways, it also twists like a corkscrew.

This twist forces the ribs on the outer side of the curve to push backward. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Common Signs

One side of the upper back looks higher than the other.

Shoulders or shoulder blades look uneven.

Clothes do not fit flat or even.

How It Is Managed

Observation: Mild curves are just watched over time by a doctor.
