CAF National Fencing Team

Day 2 at the KMA Invitational saw our sabre teams take to the piste ⚔️

CAF Team 1 — Danielle Burghgraef, Noah Lee, Garrett Whelan, and Daniil Makarenko — dominated poules, winning all 3 and ranking 1st. They continued strong in DEs, defeating École de Santé des Armées 1 (45–15) and KMA 1 (45–33), before a heartbreaking 45–44 loss to CISM France — earning 🥉 bronze!

CAF Team 2 — Marcy Lau, Chelsey Guo, Lakni Stanzel, and Stephanie Leach — battled through a tough poule, finishing 12th. They fought hard in DEs, narrowly losing 45–43 to the Military Academy of Modena, and placed 13th overall.

Lors de la 2e journée du KMA Invitational, nos équipes de sabre sont entrées en piste ⚔️

L’équipe CAF 1 — Danielle Burghgraef, Noah Lee, Garrett Whelan et Daniil Makarenko — a dominé les poules avec 3 victoires, se classant 1re. En élimination directe, ils ont battu l’École de Santé des Armées 1 (45–15) et KMA 1 (45–33), avant de s’incliner de justesse 45–44 contre CISM France — remportant la 🥉 médaille de bronze!

L’équipe CAF 2 — Marcy Lau, Chelsey Guo, Lakni Stanzel et Stephanie Leach — a affronté une poule très relevée, terminant 12e. En élimination directe, ils ont livré un combat serré (45–43) contre l’Académie militaire de Modène et terminé 13e au classement général.

Last weekend at the KMA Invitational, our épée teams took on Day 1 ⚔️

CAF Team 1 — Daniil Makarenko, Jake Gouchie Provencher, and Bel McLean — won 2 of 3 poule matches, with a narrow 44–43 loss to the Military Academy of Modena. Ranked 5th after poules, they won their first DE 45–35 and finished 6th overall.

CAF Team 2 — Trinity Armstrong, Dani Mansour, Lydia Tzianas, and Kevin Leung — also went 2 for 3 in poules, losing only to CISM France. Ranked 8th, they fought hard in a close 45–42 DE and finished 10th.

Bravo to both teams on a strong performance and an amazing international experience 👏⚔️

Le week-end dernier, lors du KMA Invitational, nos équipes d’épée étaient en piste pour la première journée ⚔️

L’équipe CAF 1 — Daniil Makarenko, Jake Gouchie Provencher et Bel McLean — a remporté 2 matchs sur 3 en poule, avec une défaite serrée 44–43 contre l’Académie militaire de Modène. Classée 5e, elle a gagné son premier match en élimination directe 45–35 et terminé 6e.

Last week our CAF International Fencing Team had the privilege of visiting **Royal Military College of Canada (RMC)** for an incredible 3-day training camp 🇨🇦⚔️

This camp was all about preparation as many of our athletes gear up to compete in the Netherlands later this March. With competition approaching, épée and sabre were in full swing all week.

We trained hard.
We fought harder.
We learned constantly.

From technical drills to tactical lessons, we took an in-depth look at the realities of high-level competition — mentally, physically, and strategically. Every bout brought us one step closer to being ready.

We were especially honoured to welcome our patron, Major-General Dave Yarker, who came in for a visit. His love for fencing stems from his time at RMC as a sabre fencer and later as a former head coach. His continued support and leadership mean so much to our program.

Thank you to RMC for hosting us and helping elevate our preparation. Next stop: 🇳🇱🔥



La semaine dernière, notre équipe internationale d’escrime des FAC a eu le privilège de se rendre au College Militaire Royale du Canada (CMR) pour un camp d’entraînement intensif de trois jours 🇨🇦⚔️

Ce camp visait à préparer plusieurs de nos membres qui participeront à une compétition aux Pays-Bas plus t**d en mars. L’épée et le sabre étaient en pleine action toute la semaine.

Nous nous sommes entraînés fort et avons combattus encore plus fort.
Nous avons appris sans relâche.

Des exercices techniques aux leçons tactiques, nous avons approfondi notre compréhension des exigences de la compétition de haut niveau — mentalement, physiquement et stratégiquement. Chaque assaut nous a rapprochés de notre objectif.

Nous avons également eu l’honneur d’accueillir notre parrain, le Major- Général Dave Yarker, venu rendre visite à l’équipe. Sa passion pour l’escrime remonte à son passage au CMR en tant que sabreur, puis comme ancien entraîneur-chef. Son soutien et son leadership sont inestimables pour notre programme.
