National Volunteer Week — Celebrating Our Program Assistants 💙

Today, we’re shining a light on an incredible group of volunteers — our Program Assistants.

Our Program Assistants include both youth skaters and adult volunteers who give their time on the ice to support our programs. They are role models both on and off the ice, leading by example, encouraging younger skaters, and helping create a positive, supportive environment in every session.

Whether they’re demonstrating skills, offering guidance, or sharing a reassuring smile, their impact is felt in countless small but meaningful ways.

They bring energy, patience, and leadership to the ice each day. Many also come from military families, and that sense of discipline, responsibility, and community spirit shines through in everything they do.

Together, they help build confidence, foster friendships, and make our programs stronger for everyone involved.

Thank you for your time, your dedication, and the care you show our skaters. You are an essential part of what makes FHHSC so special. ♥️

At FHHSC, we are incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated and passionate community of volunteers supporting us both on and off the ice. From our Volunteer Board of Directors to our AMAZING Program Assistants, each of you gives countless hours every season to help us deliver the best possible programming for our skaters.

Whether you’re planning events, assisting on the ice, organizing behind the scenes, or cheering from the stands, your contributions shape every part of our club. Every volunteer—no matter the role, the time given, or the task—helps define the spirit of FHHSC. Your generosity and commitment influence not only our programming, but also the experiences and memories of our skaters and their families. You create the environment where skaters feel supported, inspired, and proud to belong.

This year, your dedication was recognized in a truly special way—your efforts played a direct role in FHHSC being named the Skate Ontario Club/Skating School of the Year. This honour reflects the heart, energy, and community you bring to our rink every day.

We also want to give a special shout‑out to everyone who volunteered at our Year-End Ice Show. From the setup and takedown crews, to our incredible dressing room parents, to the volunteers welcoming families at the entrance—the show simply wouldn’t have been what it was without you. Your teamwork and enthusiasm helped create an unforgettable experience for our skaters and their families.

This week, and every week, we want to give a HUGE thank you to every single one of our incredible volunteers. Your passion and commitment lift our skaters, our programs, and our entire community—FHHSC shines because of you.

We are thrilled to share some very exciting news from this past weekend’s Year-End Ice Show!

The Fort Henry Heights Skating Club has been named the 2025–2026 Club and Skating School of the Year by Skate Ontario, and is also being recognized nationally by Skate Canada as the Club/Skating School of the Year for Ontario.

This prestigious award recognizes clubs that represent the very best of our sport—not just in results, but in values, community, and the care shown to skaters at every level.

Anyone who walks through our doors knows what makes this club special. It’s the welcoming environment, the encouragement on and off the ice, and the dedication of our coaches, volunteers, and board members who work together to support every skater.

As a club deeply connected to the military community, we are especially proud to provide a place of stability, belonging, and support for families who call this community home.

This season, our club continued to grow—welcoming new families, expanding programming, and creating new opportunities through partnerships—while continuing to build a strong sense of belonging for all.

The award was formally presented during our Ice Show by Kate McNeil from Skate Ontario, making the moment even more meaningful as we celebrated together on home ice.

We are incredibly proud of this recognition. It reflects the heart, dedication, and resilience that define our club.

Nous sommes ravis de partager une excellente nouvelle concernant le spectacle sur glace de fin d'année du week-end dernier !

Le Club de patinage de Fort Henry Heights a été nommé Club et École de patinage de l'année 2025-2026 par Patinage Ontario et est également reconnu à l'échelle nationale par Patinage Canada comme Club/École de patinage de l'année pour l'Ontario.

Ce prix prestigieux récompense les clubs qui incarnent l'excellence de notre sport, non seulement par leurs résultats, mais aussi par leurs valeurs, leur esprit communautaire et l'attention portée aux patineurs de tous les niveaux.

Quiconque franchit nos portes sait ce qui rend ce club si spécial : l'accueil chaleureux, les encouragements sur glace et hors glace, et le dévouement de nos entraîneurs, bénévoles et membres du conseil d'administration qui travaillent ensemble pour soutenir chaque patineur.

En tant que club profondément enraciné dans la communauté militaire, nous sommes particulièrement fiers d'offrir un lieu de stabilité, d'appartenance et de soutien aux familles qui vivent dans cette communauté.

Cette saison, notre club a continué de grandir : nous avons accueilli de nouvelles familles, élargi notre programmation et créé de nouvelles opportunités grâce à des partenariats, tout en renforçant le sentiment d’appartenance de chacun.

Le prix a été officiellement remis lors de notre gala sur glace par Kate McNeil de Patinage Ontario, ce qui a rendu ce moment encore plus mémorable, car nous l'avons célébré ensemble sur notre glace.

Nous sommes extrêmement fiers de cette reconnaissance. Elle témoigne de la passion, du dévouement et de la résilience qui caractérisent notre club.
