Summer is here - despite the weather! The club has started our weekly operations- right now it’s Monday 415 5ish weekly. In June we move to Monday and Thursday same time frame. That will be the plan till end of September. We are occasionally open for requests outside of those hours (like noonish) but we require coordination and time.

Happy New Year, Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays Divers.
Lets get the good news out first:
Join us for our annual New Years Day Dive - 11 am at the club for fills, gear, and final location (likely Portsmouth). It will be "fresh" out there so bring warm cloths and if your in a dry suit hot water to unfreeze your zippers. The visibility this time of year is usually fantastic. Post dive location will be somewhere warm and serves drinks (dare I say beers??!) and food.
Word is there is water in the pool now, and the repairs are done - whether it stays in the pool for long is questionable at this point. Hey, I'm just glad to see actual water in there. This past year has been challenging like no other with the pool down for maintenance for most of the year. We hope to resume monthly pool nights late Jan or early Feb, when PSP has completed their retraining and retooling of their team. It will be fun to see everyone come out and test their new scuba toys for the upcoming summer scuba season( is this one for the acronym books USSS?).
We want to thank every member of this past year for your support during this trying time. We all managed to get out and do some fun diving this year, despite crazy weather patterns. Its very cool to see so many members taking the plunge to try new gear out and/or buying dry suits. It really extends your diving options. We were able to run a couple of AOWs and a rescue course, but we know the bulk of our activity will be the backlog of folks who want a Basic Open Water course. Every year we try to promise to run a photogrammetry course, maybe this year we can get the stars and planets to align. We are looking at holding a couple of dry land seminars (one on the recent wreck discovery in Toronto Harour area last year) – details are still sketchy so “wait out”. Course schedules and pricing will be discussed just before the next AGM, likely late March or early April. We expect to start training as soon as possible.
The club is still "open" we never really stop diving. Its on request via either our new whatsapp channel or via messenger to the club. While we are not planning on running an ice course this year there are a couple of local shops planning one in February. If your brave and have the right warm dive gear and enough experience in cold water this could be your year. Regular diving will resume informally post ice season, and restart formally in May right around our first BOW lake session. Charters will start likely restart mid/end May. Its sad to see folks posted out but the clubs exec filled into the shoes of those departing nicely, and as usual we have a great responsive team. We look forward to serving our community again in the following year, thanks for your trust in us.
Ok now for “The Bad News”: We will likely have to raise prices somewhat again this year, as last years shutdown hit the long term compressor and gear planning hard. Given how unreliable the pool has been in the last couple of years there is a high risk we may have to cancel courses again. We will plan for what we can and try to minimize the effect on the membership, but its an issue that cant be ignored.
On that note this is ranging into TLDR (too long didn’t read) territory. There is probably more I could blab about but it’s more fun to just go diving, so let’s do that instead Jan 1! As a final note as a diving club who also promotes environmental and historical linkages, we want to take note that we share this land and waters with our indigenous partners, and will do what we can to preserve it for future generations to enjoy just as they did before us.
