Reviews are starting to come in for book 2 of the Epic and Kimura series. But when you write something, you cannot know how it will land. So when someone connects with your story, it puts a smile on your face.

“To say I enjoyed this book from Cu***ng would be an understatement.”
— Matthew Lloyd, Reedsy Discovery

A story about justice, forgiveness, scars and the power of hope.

Sometimes the things that look easy are the things that took the most work.

You see the medal.
You don’t see the practices.

You see the confidence.
You don’t see the moments of doubt.

You see the skill.
You don’t see the thousands of repetitions.

You see the win.
You don’t see the losses that came first.

When someone makes something look easy, don’t assume it was easy.

Often, you’re looking at the result of years of showing up when nobody was watching.

The goal isn’t for it to be easy.
The goal is to work until it looks that way

What kind of fun are you having today?

Heart of Hope is a powerful story about forgiveness, redemption, and the choices that shape who we become.

Brian Luke Seaward, Ph.D., described it beautifully:

“A magical journey that evolves the soul.”

At its heart is a question: What do we do with the pain others have caused us? Do we carry it forward—or choose something different?

THE LOWS BECOME HIGHS IF YOU KEEP CLIMBING!

We had a great time at the Vaughan in-house tournament! We brought six competitors and came home with 4 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze!

One of our fighters captured gold with two matches lasting a combined 32 seconds! Others fought to the bitter end and didn’t get the result they were hoping for.

And that’s what competition is about.

The medals are great, but the real victories are often found in what happens between tournaments.

One of our competitors lost their very first match at a previous tournament. This time, after winning three hard-fought matches to capture gold, I reminded them of that moment.

This is what happens when you deal with the lows the right way.

You learn. You work. You come back. You keep climbing.

Because the lows can become highs—if you don’t stop climbing.

Well done, Valorix Comp Class! We are incredibly proud of the work you’ve put in and the way you represented our team.

Courage. Confidence. Community.

I’ve been anxiously waiting for the first official review of Heart of Hope.

As an author, you never really know if a story will resonate once it leaves your hands.

Today, that question was answered.

What meant the most wasn’t the rating—it was that the reviewer spent much of his review reflecting on how the story made him think differently about his own life. To me, that’s one of the greatest compliments a writer can receive.

Here are a few of my favourite excerpts:

“To say I enjoyed this book from Cu***ng would be an understatement.”

“The ability to take an old problem and breathe new life into it is a feat not many can accomplish.”

Thank you, Matthew Lloyd, for taking the time to read and review Heart of Hope.

The story continues.

Caleb and Mila face a new challenge—someone driven not by power, but pain.

As the line between right and wrong begins to fracture, the Protectors face a new adversary armed with more than scars.

For the past several months, I’ve been deep in the editing process for Epic & Kimura: Heart of Hope. The manuscript goes in for its final professional line-edit at the end of May, and I’m hoping for a late June / early July release.

This story is incredibly close to my heart because through it, I’ve been able to honour someone I never thought I would—but now I’m grateful I can.

Curious?

I hope you’ll step back into the arena with us when the story releases.

What would you do if someone pressured you to hurt another?
What if it was two people…What if it was five?

One of our students faced that moment.

Five boys wanted him to attack someone who was alone—to prove his skill. To show what he could do.

He was tested.He passed.

He didn’t strike.He stood.

Because at our school, skill isn’t just about what you can do—it’s about what you choose to do.

Part of our student oath is to be a positive role model. To make others feel accepted. To encourage, not harm.

That boy was alone. He needed a friend.

And in that moment—our student gave him one.

Courage isn’t just about getting better…it’s about being better.

Small team. Big impact.

We had an incredible day at the International Kids Ontario. Our crew may have been small—but they showed up strong.

Lyanna and Harvey stepped on the mat and left it all out there:
• 5 total matches
• 4 wins
• Growth you can’t measure on a scoreboard

Lyanna came back and beat an opponent who had defeated her 15–0 last year. That’s what resilience looks like.

Harvey secured two submissions—including a beautiful triangle to armbar combo. Precision under pressure.

It takes courage to step on the mat and compete.
But every single time you do… you step off stronger.

Proud of you both. This is just the beginning.

Confidence isn’t something you’re born with. It’s something you build.

It starts with a simple idea:
- Trusting yourself to do what’s in front of you.

So how do you build that trust?

You show up.
You push… even when you don’t feel like it.

That’s courage.

And every time you choose it, your confidence grows.

These Power Bar kids did exactly that over the last month—showing up, pushing through, and earning that trust in themselves.

Well done, everyone. Keep pushing.
