๐ทApril 28th is the WSIB Day of Mourning.
On this day, we pause our arthritis series to sit and reflect of those who have lost loved ones due to workplace accidents.
๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆAt STAVE OFF, we have members, friends, and clients who have experienced the pain of this loss. You never expect to go to work and think something bad will happen. Thatโs the case for any accident really.
Words donโt take the pain and grief away.

What every Physiotherapist wants you to know About Arthritis
There are so many scary things that are out there on the internet about arthritis. Dr. Google sometimes is not our friends.
Physiotherapists (especially us at STAVE OFF) work with people with arthritis a LOT.
There are a couple of trends that we wish that all of our clients knew about arthritis.
1๏ธโฃA joint replacement isnโt inevitable! I know it can seem like it because the arthritis isnโt going away. But its more than that! You can have pain that is managed and you can do all of the things you love without needing a major surgery. For some itโs the right path. But you have a CHOICE
2๏ธโฃExercise especially lifting weights is one of the best things you can do for your arthritis. Movement is medicine for arthritis. Knee feeling stiff? A walk and some squats would help! Getting your blood pumping can make your joints feel looser and you can instantly feel better. Ever notice you feel most stiff in the morning? Thats because you havenโt been moving!
3๏ธโฃManaging the pain from arthritis doesnโt need to be done with meds. Pain relievers like Tylenol and Voltaren can be great but you donโt HAVE to use medications. Heat, massage, stretching and other tricks can help too!
4๏ธโฃYou need to keep your body strong. When we are in pain we can become couch potatoes. Itโs very easy to do I know. But pushing to get a bit of movement can keep your body strong and make all of those tasks easier to do.

We are so excited to be running this workshop this weekend! There is SO MUCH that happens to a woman's body and yet many of our clients tell us that they didn't know who to go to to ask questions, ask for help and be able to talk about what is normal and what isn't during this time in her life.

Leaking when you sneeze or cough can be a little embarrassing..... BUT it is treatable!
Far too many women unfortunately think this is just the way their life is now... or they are running to the bathroom every half hour. The best thing you can do is seeing a pelvic floor physiotherapist.
Most think if they just do their kegels it will resolve the problem, but there is so much more to it than that!
It's estimated that 30% of people are doing kegels incorrectly. The other issue is that it may have nothing to do with your pelvic floor muscles not being strong enough ... it might be that they're TOO tight.
Your pelvic floor can also be hypertonic, which is when the pelvic floor muscles become to tight and are unable to relax which can also causing leaking.
Consulting with a pelvic floor physiotherapist can tease apart what is happening to you. This is not something that you need to live with or accept.

In a year, we will look back on this time and think "do you remember that quarantine?! We were doing all of our workouts from home and not going anywhere. What a wild time to be alive but we got through it
This will not last forever. We are in a time where as a society, we are sitting in negative emotions and that is okay. This is an episode in time. It feels like a long episode โฆ but it WILL pass.
Our city is doing wonderful so we can remain cautiously optimistic that we will see you all soon.
Know that we miss the noisiness of the gym. We miss the chatter. We miss the community.
But it is an episode, and soon we will be high fiving each other once again!
