Fetal Position Breathing

The first thing I work on with my clients is breathing. And I’ve been stressing that a lot with everything that’s going around. Did you know over half of us don’t know how to breathe properly? Weird hey? Please practice this everyday and get your loved ones to do the same. Lots of tummy time and deep breathing if you’re sick. Don’t let sick loved ones lie down all day either. Make them get up and walk around, or at least change positions often! Lying on the back is the worst.

And remember, people who exercise have the best C- outcomes. So if you need a kick in the butt to start working out, this is it!💪🏼

1) Set up by shifting your hips back so your bum touches your heels (or close), then slide your elbows to knees.

2) Keep your neck neutral, but round your back. Place your forehead on a yoga block if you have trouble touching the floor.

3) Breathe in through your nose and attempt to expand your abdomen, sides and your mid back. Especially focus on breathing into your back.

4) Exhale slowly and completely through your mouth drawing your ribs down.

Repeat 10-12x

Many people are getting the shot these days (whether they want to or not). As a gym owner and fitness professional, I want to stay on the safe side and caution you and your athlete kids not to engage in vigorous exercise a week after your first and second shots to avoid possible V injury.

If you train with me or attend group classes, please inform me if you are scheduled to get the shot so we can discuss and plan your training schedule.

There have been many reports of heart issues after the shots, particularly in men under 30 including a 16 year old athlete that went into cardiac arrest.

Some experts now believe, since many of them are soldiers and athletes, that the regular intense workouts they engage in may have contributed to the adverse reactions. They recommend no vigorous exercise for a week after both shots.

This is post is not a V debate, so please no for or against comments.

It’s September and back to a regular schedule, yay! Group classes starting Thursday at 9am. I think there are only two spots left!

Let me know if you’re interested in coming or in after school or evening classes for October. Everyone was asking me to start easy so if you haven’t worked out much all summer you’ll fit right in Lol.

I’m not taking any new training clients for awhile so make sure you get on the waiting list for the next available spots.

What an incredible summer! I’m hoping for a lot more warm days for hiking, canoeing and other outdoor activities, but I’m super excited for more time in the gym and for group classes to start. Find a way to move your body that you enjoy so much that you ask yourself if it actually even counts as exercise💃🏻 Because something that fun couldn’t really be effective, could it???😄
What do you plan to do for healthy movement this coming week?

Of course most people have to do at least some exercises that they don’t particularly enjoy for strength, rehab and to prevent injury. However, for the majority of the minutes you need to put in for basic health, there is an enjoyable healthy activity out there for everyone. I promise!😊
(Unless you are the laziest person on earth, which I highly doubt😜)

You've got to wonder why our government would close gyms and prohibit sports for all ages, including outdoor activities such as running and walking clubs, when exercise has been proven to help keep people out of the hospital??? I thought the purpose of the lockdowns was to reduce the strain on our healthcare system.

PANDEMIC CONTROL RECOMMENDATIONS SHOULD INCLUDE REGULAR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY ACROSS ALL POPULATION GROUPS." (All caps mine.)

The only people who were shown to be more at risk for severe outcomes were those with organ transplants and advanced age.

This is the summary of the study conducted:

-Patients with COVID-19 who were consistently inactive during the 2 years preceding the pandemic were more likely to be hospitalised, admitted to the intensive care unit and die than patients who were consistently meeting physical activity guidelines.

-Other than advanced age and a history of organ transplant, physical inactivity was the strongest risk factor for severe COVID-19 outcomes.

So when will gyms and people all over the place be able to do fun and important things like this again??? People are missing sports, classes, events and gyms like crazy! If you haven’t been in a group setting like this for over a year, you won’t believe your emotions when you get to go again! When I started classes and events last fall after the first lockdown and summer break, the women were thrilled! Several almost started crying because they were so happy. Not because I was such a great instructor😝 Not at all. They simply hadn’t realized how much they had missed the fun and energetic group setting. They said it felt sooo good to be able to go out and do things with other women again just for fun. Our town hasn’t even been following the rules very well, so I can only imagine how it would feel for people who have been staying home all this time.

I don’t get annoyed when people say you don’t need a gym to work out because they’re right, and a lot of people manage quite well without a gym. (Unless they’re saying that in a pro-lockdown statement.) But it’s difficult or almost impossible to learn or do some things without a larger building, equipment and/or people.

Self-defence for instance. There is no way you can learn that kind of skill from videos even if you’re good at learning that way. You need the force, pressure and attacks from someone else. And how many people own a punching body Lol?
And dance and competitive sports by yourself? Doesn’t work.

Some people don’t learn without someone teaching them in person. Many people have no motivation to work out alone no matter how many different things and often they try.
Not everyone has the space or money to buy the equipment they need.

My gym, like many others, is very clean, and I know that both exercise and socializing boost the immune system and fight disease. I just read an article that said very few people who were fit and exercised regularly were getting the worst cases of C-vd. No surprise there.

But you know what the real point is? We don’t need to justify having our gyms or other businesses open? As Canadians, we all have a right to operate our businesses if we do so responsibly, like most of us do on a regular basis. AHS and the government haven’t stopped people from getting donuts, sugary drinks, junk food, alcohol, ci******es, toys... (and they shouldn’t) with any of the lockdowns. Even ma*****na stores are open, aren’t they? But gyms and other sports and fitness businesses have been shut down every time! Where is the logic in that?

I’m not saying all this to complain about my gym. It’s been slower but I’m fine and finding ways to run my business. I just feel super bad for all the gyms and other facilities that are closed, and the trainers and instructors who want to teach again, and the people that desperately need or want to get back to their favourite class or equipment.

Let’s find ways to stay fit and healthy even though the government has given us almost every excuse this last year not to🙌🏼💪🏼
