Happiest Birthday Floyd! 🎉

Our mule turns 1 year old today! (In fact, he already did around 3:30am!) This sweet young fella has done nothing but thrive this past year after a very rocky start to life. Floyd required quite a bit of intensive intervention in the early part of his life, to the point where one of our incredible local vets took Tara aside and told her to prepare for the worst, as he may not pull through. Floyd however, true to his stubborn mule roots, dug deep and pulled through with ongoing veterinary care and everybody’s assistance helping him any way we could.

Floyd has spent his first year simply being a baby mule — making plenty of friends, both human and equine. Going for walks down the trail beside his favourite Uncle Laredo, hanging out at the tie rail meeting many of our customers and acquaintances, and most mornings when the grown-up horses are getting ready for a day of work, Floyd is part of the crew too. Proudly wearing a saddle pad draped over his back and getting groomed right alongside the big horses.

Mules can live exceptionally long lives — up to 40 years of age — and Floyd is shaping up to live a full and happy one!

Two of our most popular horses around here include our Friesian mare Jetta and our buckskin mare Kat. These gorgeous girls are beautiful inside and out, and they can’t wait to show you our lovely trails from horseback! 🐴

After a short social media break over the May Long Weekend and last week, we wanted to share a small recap of just how incredible our horses truly are.

Our good boy Boone stepped in last minute as Tara’s main mount for the Bit-a-Bling drill team performances at the Cloverdale Rodeo. Carrying the BC flag, Boone was a class act all weekend long.

Our pretty girl Lady carried our lovely guide Sydney and the Sunbelt Rentals flag with style. Kat was an incredible ambassador for the Glen Valley Stables booth in the Farm Friendz building. Bogo, Dunkin, and Oreo hit the streets of both Cloverdale and Fort Langley, participating in not one, but TWO parades over the weekend!

Our horses are amazing trail horses, but they’re so much more than that. They are well-rounded individuals that represent the true epitome of a good horse — confidently stepping into all kinds of situations with style, kindness, and reliability.

Yesterday our favourite buckskin girl Kat (Katie) celebrated her 8 year Gotchaversary with Glen Valley Stables! 🎉🐴

This great mare is aging gracefully with us and we sure are glad to have her as part of the team here. Our golden girl (quite literally 😉) turns 23 this year and continues to be a popular choice for kids and first time riders alike. Katie is kind, gentle, patient and if there’s one thing she loves most besides the trails… it’s snacks! 🍎🥕

Katie is available for rides by request and she’ll also be on display this coming weekend at the Cloverdale Rodeo in the Farm Friendz exhibit! Make sure to stop by, say hello to her and touch base with our Glen Valley Stables table while you’re there.

We’ll also be offering rides throughout the long weekend and can’t wait to see everyone both at the rodeo and out on the trails!

Slick is another one of those horses that quickly becomes a guest favourite around here. With his smooth stride, easygoing personality and handsome looks, he’s the kind of horse that people love the second they swing a leg over him.

Whether he’s out on a quiet trail ride, posing for photos or reminding everyone that treats should absolutely be part of the daily routine, Slick does it all with style. Around the barn he’s known for being gentle, personable and always ready to for the next adventure.

Happy 15th Birthday, Boone! 🎉🐴

Born May 5, 2011 in Alberta, this incredible gelding has built a résumé longer than most trail horses could dream of. From working the feedlots of the prairies to cattle penning and cutting, and even stepping into the drill team arena, Boone has truly done it all.

These days, he’s right where he belongs—out on the trails, doing what he loves most. This cool bay AQHA gelding is about as close as it gets to riding one of those seasoned, dependable horses you’d see on Yellowstone.

Today, Boone is enjoying a well-earned birthday off, soaking up the sunshine while appreciating the cooler temperatures. A day fit for a horse who’s given so much over the years.

Days off are for rest and relaxation—and Mondays at Glen Valley Stables are no exception.

Boone and Bogo are taking nap time seriously, recharging after a beautiful weekend out on the trails. While horses do most of their sleeping standing up, they still need REM sleep just like we do. To get that deep, restful sleep, they have to lie down—and surprisingly, about 30 minutes of that quality rest is enough to keep them feeling their best for the next 24 hours.

The humans at Glen Valley Stables try to enjoy a slower-paced Monday as well, but the care of our horses always comes first. We do keep an eye on the phone for upcoming bookings, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we ease into the week—returning to full operation on Tuesdays.

Welcome back, Jetta! 🖤

This stunning Friesian mare spent the winter up in Quesnel with Allison, enjoying some well-earned rest and relaxation—but she’s officially back on the coast and getting back into her groove on the trails!

Jetta has always been a guest favorite, and we’re so excited to share her with you again for the late spring—and possibly summer—season. But don’t wait too long… she’ll be heading back home to Quesnel before you know it. Miss your chance, and you might just have to make the road trip to ride this Black Beauty next time!
