Thunderbird Report April 29 2026 NOTICE TO THUNDERBIRD FAST DRAW CLUB MEMBERS/ASSOCIATES

NOTICE TO THUNDERBIRD FAST DRAW CLUB MEMBERS/ASSOCIATES;
Howdy, All; This report will cover a lot of the Langley Rod & Gun Club Banquet. I know this is a 'fastdraw site', but this Banquet is one of the Thunderbird FD Events since LR&GClub IS our home club,
& we do take part in this event each year! One thing about this event, as it is such a prestigious happ--ening, the LR&GC Directors like to see these Annual Awards being extremely respected by their winners & if you are a winner-& don't show up to receive your award{s} your awards won't be handed out as it's felt that such award{s} are being 'downplayed' & being of less importance, like it or not.
Top local politicians such as MLA'S, MP'S, Mayors & Councillors are invited each year to hand out to the winners their trophies along with prestigious Gov't Certificates which go to all winners. A great dinner is served for everyone which takes place during these years at Adrian's Restaurant & Langley Airport-mmm...good! If you didn't attend-you missed out on a lot! Top Fast Draw year-end Trophies {for our monthly 'Top Gun events of 2025 were awarded to our FD winners this year by Langley Township Councillor Steve Ferguson, whom also shoots Fast Draw w. us at our World's Championships' Celebrity Shootout in July-
THANK YOU, STEVE! &, CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNERS;
In Open Class, the Fast Draw winners were;
Top Gun Women's=Nicole Franks
Top Gun Men's=Shawn Murphy
Fastest Time Blanks, Women's Div.-Karen Robinson
Fastest Time Blanks, Men's Div.-Shawn Murphy
Top Gun Thumbing Class-Den Robinson
1st Place 'Annie Oakley Div.=Gabriella Antao
And the LRGC Special Annual Award, the 'Volunteer{s} of the Year Award Trophy' was presented by Langley Township Mayor Eric Woodward to Karen & Den Robinson. {I actually 'volunteered' to let Karen have the award-but then that would have made ME ahead of her in 'volunteer points', & she'd have to give that award to me, so I left it well enough alone... :} } Many, many THANKS to those Directors who voted for us-it was actually Karen's & mine most favorite award of the year that night!
Coming Up for Fast Draw; We have our own 'AWARDS BANQUET and ELECTION OF OFFICERS' coming this Friday night, April 10, 2026-to be held at the gun club! {Please remember, you HAVE to be a paid-up member to vote!}
Our next Gun Of The Month Top Gun Trophy shoot will be 10 shots total Stepback/Stepup Wax from 5 to 15 ft.to be held on April 24, 2026 @ club. We'll be shooting at the Blocker Targets.
And we've since heard from one of the 2 leaders of 'Gone Country', which is the upcoming Cancer funding event. James simply contacted us to verify that we would again help them with our shows. and our other 'set-ups', such as our Reaction Booth & 'Roper Training' event. He has verified that he'd get back to us w. the details, but this event has been 'moved up' until the weekend just before our World's FD Championships @ Aldergrove Fair on July 20/21, 2026. {As of now Sanctioned by WFDA.}
And here, I've included here a bunch of PHOTOS of the LRGC Annual event, hoping y'all will enjoy!
Well, that's all I can 'squeeze in' {or 'out'} for now, so, until next time, please, 'Take Care & Play Fair'.
THANKS for 'listening', Den Robinson, FD Director, Langley Rod & Gun Club.
"Just to note here-for all shooters; At our Fast Draw contest @ club last night, I tested the sound sensors on our targets {by firing a shotgun- primered wax bullet in between them at the 5 ft. Range}-like I always do. Well, last year the nail-sized PIN that holds the FIRING PIN & CUP & SPRING {inside your gun's frame} got worn out while I kept extracting it to fit in a new firing pin. {The old firing pin was bent!} Well, I'd fire a Shotgun primer-and the worn 'frame pin' would simply appear-almost popping OUT of the top of the gun's frame! Sooo, I tried 'flattening' it & fit it into the gun's frame for last night's contest. Well, I fired it-and it eventually STILL 'popped' out! {almost completely OUT of the top of the gun's frame!} But I, luckily, noticed it and I put it back in-and finished the 10 shot 'doubles' contest. {every shot fired!} When I took the gun out just now-today-to clean it-there wasn't ANY pin {that holder pin} in it at all-gotta wonder WHEN it came 'popping out' out at the club-must've been while I was shooting...!?! I figure it was just a 'blast' of the shotgun primers that we use, that 'forced' the pin 'upwards & out'-it can't go 'downward' because of the loading gate, and that 'holder pin' is now probably still on the floor & gun club...? Oh well, gotta make 'nuther one...live & learn! Been doing this most of my life-and STILL learned something new...! Den"

NOTICE TO THUNDERBIRD FAST DRAW CLUB MEMBERS/ASSOCIATES;
Howdy, Folks;
Okay, up n' coming is the Annual HACS Show. {Historical Arms Collector's Society} where our club is required to do one or more FD Demos the 'Japanese Way' of drawing and firing {at 4' dia. Balloon targets'} with a handgun.
Because it is indoors, our regular Blk Powder blanks are too loud to be utilized-so we use standard shotgun primers only, and, like in Japan, must stand right up to the balloon to hit & break the target. We will have our usual Reaction Time 'test' booth c/w info Albums, & usually t.v. Videos of Fast Draw done 'elsewhere & around, that we have, & will be right next to Glenn Renney's booth as well, as is usual. Permits for our guns have been sent for, and we shall NEED some of our member's help-as is usual, for this two day event, which takes place THIS MONTH, March 20, 21, 2026 weekend!
And yes, as usual, Tbirds are so busy, that I'm behind on reports of our Soccer Team visitors, our Gun Of The Month {Feb.} shoot, our Langley Rod &Gun Club Elections AND the LR&GC Annual Banquet, ALL of which our Tbird members are-or have been-involved with!
So THIS TIME, I'm gonna 'catch up some-with this report being a report on our son, Jason Robinson's Soccer team visit-and their Fast Draw event of that night, which took place in February AT the gun club. I did not get last names, as some simply didn't want theirs printed-but you will find-attached-several photos of that event, which were taken by myself & others, others which I usually print their 'credits' on. BUT, I would like to take this moment to THANK our several different Photographers, whom make these 'historic & interesting moments' of Fast Draw available! THANK YOU ALL!
On the Soccer Team's visit, they were 'subjected' to watch & tryout Fast Draw, with events like our two 'Twoonie Trigger Ticklers', test their Reaction Times on our balloon stands setup-which was handled by our 'Annie Oakley, Gabriella Antao, and then our visitors competed amongst themselves for their own Trophy award, & witness their coach, Jason, get dressed up & decorated w. Balloons-sort of like a Christmas Tree- only to have those 'decorations' shot around and OFF of him, by his own 'nasty' father! {After which, he likely had to put up with some 'chidings' by his mother, Karen...?} So it goes, but, for all, it appears to have been another 'FUN night! THANKS for your support, EVERYONE!
And, CONGRATS to our 'Soccer's Fastest Gun' of that evening; Announced in the photos!
Coming up,, naturally, is the H.A.C.S. Show on March 20, 21,
following which; Will be our next Gun Of The Month event=Double Wax @ Blocker target with targets 6 ft. Apart, and the shooter{s} placed 10 ft. back at the centre of both targets.
Same goes that night for our Top Gun Thumbing event!
And then will be our own Annual Elections AND Trophy Banquet, which will take place on the First Friday in April. PLEASE remember that you MUST be a paid up-& present-member of Tbirds in order to vote and or run- for any of the Offices by this night.
THANKS, FOLKS!

NOTICE TO THUNDERBIRD FAST DRAW CLUB MEMBERS/ASSOCIATES;
Okay, our club re-opened in January with a pretty 'bland' turnout as some members were 'snowbirding' & others were trying to recover after their Xmas & New Year's holiday. Our LR&GC Boxing Day event was successfully pulled off again-a tribute to those hardy souls & club Directors whom dedicated their time & efforts toward that end-SALUTE! In February tho'-we had a dozen additional folks from our son, Jason Robinson's, soccer team come out to watch us in action as well as try out their turns at Fast Draw-& enter their own mixed men & ladies' FD Tournament. {THANK YOU, J.R.!} I was hoping to get all my photos & info re that event ready for this report-but still need more time for that one, so, at this time I'm gonna mainly cover-with photos- this report with info re our upcoming FIVE CARD STUD event, which some had practice for last Friday, as it will take place THIS COMING FRIDAY NIGHT! [Our FIRST Gun Of The Month of this year will be the last Friday of this month} Now '5 Card Stud' was an event brought about by the old 'western movies' portrayal of gamblers holding their cards until they have to go for their guns when the 'bad guy' appears! As I recall, the first of these events were in Oregon and 'dreamed up' by Oregon's Dick Hornbeck. Bob Franks and myself did a lot of 'work' {read 'FUN'!} trying to get our times down into the .40's {hundredths of a second in those days as there weren't any 'thousandths of a second timers' back then. And these events were mostly done using Blank ammo. BUT NOT THIS ONE COMING UP-we'll be using Wax Bullets at a Silhouette target with the table set back to 7 ft. {which forces shooters to be roughly 8 ft. Away from the target when they shoot.} And, shooters will hold cards in their hands-and the bottom of their hands are to be held roughly 5 1/2 inches on top of their gun{s}.
At this point, I can think of only about half-dozen of today's Tbirds that have taken part in this event in those long-ago years ! I've put together some photos of our Practice, by Tony Antao, Karen & myself from it {last Friday.} to give y'all an idea of what folks will be trying to do this coming Friday night-and Trophies go to Third Place O/A-LOTSA LUCK, FOLKS!
COMING UP; Langley Rod & Gun Club's ELECTION OF OFFICERS is this coming Wednesday night! You MUST be a paid up member to vote-or be nominated-for a position! I have asked which of our FD Directors positions have ran out-but have not received word at the time of this report. PLEASE attend to help our FD folks get a position or two-and/or be reinstated! This is IMPORTANT to our FD's well-being! Further, the HACS Show is coming up in March, so I NEED to have your information-to send for permits-and will NEED to know which of our members will be attending.
Finally, at our OWN Elections-and Banquet, which we've again put back until April, due to give our 'snowbirds' time to return, as well as giving members time to RENEW with LR&GClub, it's Banquet, the HACS Show, AND WFDA renewals, as we know these last months are a 'hard time' for many, since being just after all that spending at Xmastime!
And, since I've likely made a big mistake-{to myself}-some time ago, Alberta's Jerry Worobec gave me 2 holsters to sell for him. When the 1st rig went {To Chuck Wong} I phoned Jerry to ask where to send the $? He told me to either keep it-or give it to Tbirds-which I did! The one that's left is a near mint Ernie Hill twister rig! AND, since our club needs a Twister for it's shows, I have-sort of 'grudgingly'-since I can't Twist anymore-decided to turn it over to our Treasurer, Shane Johnson, to figure out the best way to use it to 'wrangle' a few more pennies for the club. It WILL be gone at our TB Banquet-that's pretty much a guarantee! THANK YOU, JERRY WOROBEC!! {Also, THANKS, Shane!}

News report just out on the Website
Thunderbird Report January 28 2026 NOTICE TO THUNDERBIRD FAST DRAW CLUB MEMBERS/ASSOCIATES;
01/14/2026
NOTICE TO THUNDERBIRD FAST DRAW CLUB MEMBERS/ASSOCIATES;
First; HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL! As well, I've finally caught up with my reports on the Thunderbird FDClub's activities of 2025-with the exception of some of our 2025 photos, a few of which I've included in this report.
For now, our next 'big thing' is our RE-OPENING of our FD Group on January 16, 2026!
As is usual, it will be on Friday evening at 7pm @ the Langley Rod & Gun Club. This will also be THE LAST CHANCE for any of our Gun Of The Month competitors to 'Make Up' for any missed G.O.M. events of last year, due to the fact that LR&GC NEEDS to know our results for their Year End Awards which will be given out next month-therefore we will NEED the time in between for the Trophies to be engraved.
And so it goes...let's hope for a good turnout of our shooters for this 'Grand Opening Of 2026' this coming Friday!
And, so our members will know in plenty of time here; we are also getting engraved three position trophies for an upcoming FIVE CARD STUD event on February the 13th of this year. Women will also be up against for this particular championship, that's THREE PLACES from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and no matter which gender you belong to-ONE of you will be our Five Card Stud {'Stud”-you'd think this would be for men only...?} Champion! The target{s} will be the WFDA Standard Silhouettes with the 'gambler's table's far edge being 7 ft. Away from the target, and the event will be a five shot total. We can set it up for two shooters @ time for Practice one Friday night prior to the event itself. Anyone whom has not done this event before can be given some 'schooling' in the Dry Fire area prior to both nights as well. Entry Fee; same as a Gun Of The Month. {there are no separate divisions in this one for Fanning or Thumbing, you can do either one or the other during the main event.
As for what's been happening with Tbirds in the meantime, well, Karen, alone this time as Jeanine MacCarthy was ill at the time, ran the LR&GClub kitchen during the Boxing Day contest, while John LeBlanc gave out the meat Prizes for the different events that day. [I actually won 10 Pork Chops at the Shoot Card draws.} It was GOOD to see and talk to former FD shooter, Big Dave Burgraff, again, as he usually shows up at this event with his shotgun. This time Dave gave me a Trigger Shoe, that he'd brought with him for one of my sixguns. {With THANKS, Dave!} As for Boxing Day, I helped the Trap Crew load clay birds-and used the then emptied cardboard boxes to keep the fires going in the fire barrels. People were actually begging for them as it was so cold that day. {Rained mostly all morning.} One must WATCH OUT for falling Trap Covers if the 'locking post' is not set in securely! Someone else had set in the post on this one Trap I was at, and, as I was stationed in front and up top, I had just turned to grab a claybird from my pile, when the overhead Trap cover slammed down, just missing my right shoulder! Then I heard the muffled yell of the young Trap Boy caught underneath of the now closed Trap Machine! It was all I could do to get up & lift it up. Luckily, the boy was one of the shorter ones, or it could have slammed on his head-and broken his neck! Crap does happen!
Next up was this Tuesday, where Karen & myself attended the first AAFFA {Aldergrove Fair} meeting of 2026! The new AAFFA Directors do appear anxious to get a'goin' @ this time!
THANKS TO ALL for your support-it's been great-and we are VERY grateful!
Den {and Karen} Robinson, AAFFA & LR&GC Directors"
