🧠 Early Warning Signs of Dementia 🧠

Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias don’t happen overnight. It starts with subtle changes that can be easy to dismiss, but catching these early warning signs can make a big difference.

Here are some early symptoms to watch for:

- Memory loss that disrupts daily life
- Difficulty planning or solving problems
- Confusion with time or place
- Trouble understanding visual images or spatial relationships
- Problems with words in speaking or writing
- Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps
- Poor judgment or decision-making
- Withdrawal from work or social activities
- Changes in mood or personality

💡 Why early diagnosis matters:

Getting checked early can help you...
✔️ Plan for the future
✔️ Access treatments and support sooner
✔️ Potentially slow progression
✔️ Reduce uncertainty and stress for you and your family

If you or someone you love is experiencing these signs, talk to a doctor. Don’t wait—early detection empowers better care and more time to live meaningfully.

🗣Communication Tips for Dementia🗣

Are you finding it challenging to talk with someone who's living with Dementia? Here are 3 easy tips to keep it kind & compassionate. It can be tricky sometimes, but a little love and patience go a long way!

Here are 3 super simple ways to communicate with care:

1️⃣ Keep it Simple
Use short, clear sentences. One step at a time works best. When someone is living with Dementia, often too many steps can be overwhelming and cause frustration and anxiety.

2️⃣ Stay Calm & Patient
Speak slowly, smile, and give them time to respond. We feed off of other people's energy, so if you're upset and anxious, your loved one likely will be as well. Take a deep breath. Walk away for a moment. Reapproach in a calm way.

3️⃣ Focus on Feelings, Not Facts
If they mix up facts, don’t correct them. You need to learn to meet them where they're at. Unless it's a matter of safety, we need to learn how to let go of needing to be right. Go with the flow and respond to their feelings.

Example:
Them: “I need to go home to my dad.”
You: “He must have been so special. Tell me about him.”

Let’s make every conversation full of warmth and dignity.
Tag someone who could use these reminders today!

🧠 What’s the Difference Between Alzheimer’s and Dementia? 🧠

We get this question a lot — and it’s an important one to understand.

DEMENTIA is an umbrella term for a group of symptoms that affect memory, thinking, and social abilities. It’s not a specific disease, but rather a general term for a decline in mental ability that’s severe enough to interfere with daily life.

ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE is the most common form of dementia, accounting for 60–80% of cases. It’s a specific, progressive brain disease that slowly affects memory and cognitive function.

Understanding this distinction helps families seek the right support and care. If you or a loved one is facing memory loss, know that you're not alone — and that resources are available.
