From a car load of hot dogs and hamburgers, buns, drinks, and condiments to 5 full tables of food. Thanks to all who joined us at the Karate In The Kawartha Lakes Year End BBQ.
About 55 students plus their parents and siblings attended.

Special thanks to Rodger King for being our barbecuer again this year. To Senseis Seth DeSouza, Maria Grace Dobbs, and Dave Cunning for the fun and games on the lawn, and to Sensei Craig McCleary for helping with organizing the food. And thanks to Alexis Wright and Teel for getting everyone parked safely.

We are so proud of our students…67 graded to their next rank a couple of weeks ago from the just over a 100 registered in September. A successful year all around.

Looking forward to registration in the fall for Lindsay and Mariposa.

PS if you have pictures from the Grading or the BBQ post then in the comments!

This was a full weekend of Karate.
Clinic. Tournament. Bunkai

What an incredible weekend. The energy, the effort, and the spirit in the dojo and tournament space were something special.
A heartfelt thank you to our parents and guardians. You made this possible. Between busy schedules and March break commitments, you still showed up, supported, and filled the stands with encouragement. That kind of support matters more than you know. We also extend our appreciation to the Clubs who travelled from outside the Kawartha area. Your presence elevated the entire experience.

To our karateka—every one of you—well done. Whether this was your first time stepping onto the floor or you’ve competed before, you showed courage, focus, and respect. For some, this was pure excitement. For others, it took real determination to push through nerves and uncertainty. That’s what growth looks like. You represented your clubs with pride. It was also wonderful to see the level of attention and respect during the Black Belt and Shindo demonstrations. That is the path. That is what you are building toward.

Behind every smooth event is a team of dedicated people. Thank you to our registration and food volunteers, scorekeepers, judges, and all those working quietly in the background. A special thank you to Sensei Maria for organizing the food, and Sensei Craig for coordinating equipment and medals. And to Sensei Randy Quarrell and Sensei Rick Leveille—thank you for travelling such a distance to teach, judge, and share your experiences of Sensei Shintani. Your presence added tremendous value to this weekend.

Lindsay Wado Kai and Mariposa Wado Kai karateka: please wear your medals to class on Tuesday and Wednesday. We want to celebrate you and capture the moment together. If any one has pictures from the weekend, please send them along to me and I will post them on the FB page for all to enjoy.

One final reminder for those in the Ambassador Program: don’t forget to submit your clinic, tournament, and photo updates.

Thank you again for making this weekend one to be proud of.
