True for you? Do you actually live it?

This is important to me because I didn’t. Came with hard lessons but perhaps the toughest was from my then 9 yr old son.

I had a career in the navy, took on lots of projects, a single parent, was writing a book, was a community volunteer, didn’t say no enough, and trying to be a father as a role model.

Trying to show success and growth and progress and ambition. Role model?

He said to me so matter of factly one day it stunned me. Cold reality.

“Dad, you are the busiest man I know. But I don’t want to be like you.” Wise young man. But still a gut punch.

No role model there. That is why this piece of wisdom is so meaningful to me. He didn’t want my success or work or ambition. He wanted more of my heart, my attention, my time.

And he deserved it.

So, a big lesson about where you are irreplaceable is that we can easily nod our head to that wisdom in the poster. The hard (and good) part is living it and making some even small choices that mean the world and can change the world for those you care about most.

A busy few month.
