Dale Hunter Racing

This coming weekend Dale Hunter Racing kicks off our 6th season racing ice oval sleds! Little long of a post but worth the read.

Crazy to think how far we have come in such little time! What seems like yesterday, I was racing JrF340’s and all that mattered was getting a day off school on fridays lol 2 years later we made the jump and ran JrF340 and F500 as well as Jr 2 Sprint out at Canadian Power Toboggan Championships - CPTC.

After running both F500 and IFS last season, we have decided to focus on running vintage IFS for Ron Fletcher Racing! All of us involved with DHR can not express enough how grateful we are for the oppurtunity and privilege to be running for Ron again this season. If theres a guy who can provide the best of the best, as well as a never ending book of valuable knowledge. Its Ron!

DHR will be racing at the Bonnechere Cup this coming weekend in Eganville, Ont.

Pretty excited to see everybody in the racing world again and finally be able to start our season. Although a late start with mother nature having other plans, we are more determined than ever!

The seasons have officially changed and ice oval season ” started ” this past weekend at the 2023 Toronto International Snowmobile ATV & Powersports Show presented by NFP !!

Had a great time this past weekend seeing familir faces again and talking racing with everbody in the ice oval world. Made some great connections with some companys over the weekend , hoping they result into some more amazing marketing partnerships!

Almost feels strange to say this after not turning any laps for 69 days so far but this weekend DHR is going racing again!

This will be my first outing with the John Watson Racing “ Project Stock Block “. We dont expect to be super competitive and blessed for speed with this motor but im honestly just thrilled to be back in the seat again!

Friday we will be at I-96 Speedway and Saturday we will be at Silver Bullet Speedway . Both nights with Great Lakes Traditional Sprints !!

It just came across my mind that I never followed up on how the John Watson Racing team did last weekend running with Great Lakes Traditional Sprints !!

Friday May 12th - I-96 Speedway

Friday I attended my first race at I96 Speedway. I qualified towards the rear of the field however that was expected being my first time there and and my 5th ever race.

I started 6th in the heat and finished 7th.

I started 11th in the feature ( 16 cars ) and was running somewhere around the top 10 , I was learning a lot running up on the little bit of a “ cushion “ ( pictured below ) that was there and had a great battle between Mike Galajda , my dad , and myself! Unfortunately with 11 laps to go I had a valve seat let go which got sucked into the motor. We put a blanket over the car and performed final rights on the motor the next day lol

Definitely not how I wanted to start my season after the night was going so well! As of right now we know the motor is hurt pretty bad and I will be out of the 26 car for a few races until we repair the damage. Thats racing!

My dad wont be able to make the race on June 10th at Southern Ontario Motor Speedway with the Ontario Traditional Sprints INC. So I will be in the 13 car that night!

Well the season has officially changed for DHR!

This weekend myself and my dad ( Ian Hunter ) will be racing the John Watson Racing owned non wing sprints with Great Lakes Traditional Sprints !

Grand Prix Ski-Doo de Valcourt 2023 is in the books! It was a tough weekend for the team as this was our first time competing in the Pro F500 class at Valcourt , or on a F500 there in general.

Saturday
Qualifier Heat - 3rd
Final - 8th

I qualified 6th for the final but unfortunately I made some mistakes as a driver during the race and we missed the set up a little on the sled due to drastic track condition changes. Thats racing!

Sunday
Qualifier Heat - 4th
Final - 8th

I qualified 7th but was forced to start in the back row for the final with no reason! Although this was a decent set back , I kept my head on my shoulders and played the cards I was dealt with the best I could! I learned from my mistakes on saturday and gained time every single lap so we’ll take it as a win!

Although my results in the finals on paper aren’t quite what I was striving to achieve , the team as a whole learned a bunch on and off the track!
