Niagara Thunderblades – Season Recap

The Niagara Thunderblades wrapped up the season with a 5–5–3 record, including a strong showing at Champions Weekend. It was a year filled with battles, big moments, tough lessons, and a whole lot of growth from every player in the room.

A Season of Ups, Downs, and Hard Work
From the first game to the last, this team showed they could compete with anyone. Some nights we were flying, earning well‑deserved wins through effort and teamwork. Other nights didn’t go our way, but even in the losses, the group kept finding ways to improve. That became the story of the season — learning, adjusting, and coming back stronger.

Champions Weekend was a perfect example. Niagara pushed through tight games, earned their spot in the gold medal final, and proved they belonged on that stage.

Gold Medal Game – A Tough Finish
In today’s final against the Sledgehammers, the Thunderblades battled hard but came up short in a 3–1 loss. It wasn’t for lack of effort — the team created chances, played with heart, and stayed in the fight right to the end.

Player of the Game: Chad Watts
Chad stood tall all afternoon, making huge saves and giving Niagara every chance to claw back. His performance was a bright spot in a tough game and a reminder of how important he’s been all season.

Growth Across the Board
One of the biggest wins this year wasn’t on the scoreboard — it was how much the team grew.

As a Team
- Better communication and trust
- Stronger defensive structure
- Smarter puck movement
- More confidence in tight, high‑pressure moments

As Individuals
Every player took steps forward. Veterans led the way with consistency and leadership. Newer players found their stride and carved out their roles. Skills improved across the board — positioning, passing, decision‑making, and overall hockey IQ all took noticeable jumps.

This group didn’t just become better players. They became a tighter unit.

Looking Ahead
If this season proved anything, it’s that the Thunderblades are building something real. The foundation is there. The culture is there. The hunger is definitely there.

Next year, this team will be back — ready to battle again, ready to push further, and ready to chase the finish they know they’re capable of. The Thunderblades will hit the ice with the same teammates, the same fire, and an even bigger drive to take the next step.

The work starts again soon. And when it does, Niagara will be ready.

The Niagara Thunderblades picked up a big win today against our division rivals, the Hamilton Sledgehammers, in a tough, high‑energy matchup that had the whole bench buzzing.

🔥 Dalton Malaschenko scored the only goal of the game — his first of the season, and it stood as the game‑winner in a tight defensive battle.
💪 Player of the Game: Josh Coens , who was outstanding from start to finish and made a huge impact all over the ice.
Goaltender Chad Watts with the shutout!
The team played with grit, structure, and a ton of heart. A full‑team effort that shows exactly what Thunderblades hockey is all about.

This is the heated division rivalry you've been waiting for—the one that has fans on the edge of their seats!

These two powerhouse teams from the Ontario Sledge Hockey Association have clashed three times this season... and every single game has ended in a nail-biting 0-0 tie! Deadlocked defenses, unbreakable goaltending, and pure grit have defined their matchups so far.

But now? It all comes down to this one game

With Champions Weekend looming in March, this final regular-season battle could tip the scales in the standings and set the tone for playoff glory. Will the visiting Hamilton Sledgehammers finally break through and claim victory on the road? Or will the hometown Niagara Thunderblades defend their ice and keep the streak alive with a breakthrough goal in front of their passionate supporters?

Expect intensity, heart-pounding action, and the kind of sledge hockey that showcases incredible skill, resilience, and sportsmanship. These athletes leave everything on the ice, don't miss it!

Come out and support the game! Bring your energy, cheer loud, and witness history in the making.

What a long, tough day on the ice and at the arena!
Started bright and early at 7am with a heartbreaker — Thunder fought incredibly hard but fell 1-0 to the Markham Islanders in a super spirited, gritty battle.
Then at 8pm we faced our division rivals, the Hamilton Sledgehammers, in a very physical, intense showdown. Both teams left everything out there, and we battled to a hard-earned 0-0 tie.
Unfortunately that means our weekend ends here without advancing to the medal round. Disappointing result, but so proud of how this team competed all day with heart and determination.
We the Niagara Thunderblades want to take a moment to acknowledge our hosts and give a huge shoutout and thank you to our spectacular hosts, the London Blizzard , for putting on an amazing tournament and celebrating your incredible 20-year anniversary milestone! What an awesome event — from the organization to the community spirit, you guys knocked it out of the park. Congrats on 20 years of growing and championing sledge hockey — here's to many more!

Thanks to everyone who came out to support, and huge respect to our opponents for three great games. Onward and upward, Thunder!
