👀🚨 Did you hear? We've got new gear!

We're mega hyped to kick off our DJing + Turntablism 101 series this evening for our 519 Community and this is a new piece of equipment we'll get to test out alongside traditional turntables we've got at 519 🥁🎧💯

Each day, every week, there's something new that remind us to go back to the roots and revisit the foundation. Foundation to the dance, is music and DJs that provide the rhythmic background.
If we're talking about DJing, we gotta go back to the looping of the breaks that paved the ways of modern day DJs. 🔁

What a blessing it is to continue spreading our love for Hip Hop and respond to the calling & the mission at 519.

Did you know we offer 1v1 lessons on all the elements of Hip Hop? ⚡️🎯

Here's a peek at our 4th DJing lesson with one of our DJ students, Kayden! 🫡💿🎧

We've been seeing so much progress in just over 4 hours of focused training - covering the basics of mixing, scratches and overall rhythmic foundation that's crucial in assuming the role of a DJ 💯
This is only possible with Kayden doing the homework on his own with one of our Numark controllers, but he's definitely earned his stripes to get funky on the turntables too! ✨️

5 steps to follow in this drill:
1. Line up the Serato marker to 12 o'clock 🕛
2. Hit the hot cue pad for the sample (kick) 🟥
3. Finger on the crossfader 🔀
4. Verify the sample with a baby scratch 👶
5. Drop/release the kick on the one ☝️

7 years into the journey of with 519 School of Hip Hop 🌱✨️

Seeing the lobby this full of energy is something we could have only dreamed of when we first opened in 2020.

We continue to stand in our own lane when it comes to teaching the cultural values that come with Hip Hop education 💯

Grooves, techniques, vocabulary - they all matter but not as much as social etiquette, artistic integrity and cultural foundation that gives us all a reason to participate in Hip Hop.

This clip demonstrates exactly why we don't simply accept the title "dance teacher"

Flu Christof Yordanis has been one of THE MOST consistently involved heads of the London Hip Hop & Breaking community. ABP × UWO Breakers is how our paths crossed many years ago and we're grateful for all the energy he has put into 519 before he earned his wings. 🪖🦅

1. How long have you guys been open?
We found this spot early 2020 and opened it in the middle of covid 🫠🙃😷
It was obviously very difficult times but we're so blessed and fortunate to have survived 6 years of operation, heading into Year 7 🙏🏽

2. Do you do this full-time?
Between Greg Thane & myself Jim Francis Xavier we're dedicated to keeping this place open 7 days/week. This is not just a hobby or merely a passion/pet project. We try to keep it 💯

3. Is it just Hip Hop?
Yes and no. Yes, we can put all the lessons taking place under the roof of 519 in the category of "Hip Hop" but that includes reading, music, writing, communication & everything in between. 💎

4. Are beginners welcome?
Always! We specialize in beginners. We're all students and we simply invite you to join us as fellow students in everything we do. 🏫
