🏡 WHO’S HOUSE? HART HOUSE!! 🏡

This past weekend, UWODS sent one of our biggest contingents yet to Hart House IV, hosted by the esteemed Hart House Debating Club. Hybrids, novice teams, senior teams, judges - we sent them all, and we’re so proud of every member’s individual competitive highs.

Special congratulations go out to UWODS debater Ethan Curry for breaking 11th overall, speaking 14th overall, and advancing to the open semifinals. We’d also like to highlight Brandon and Kevin (QDU) for breaking as the 7th novice team and advancing to novice semifinals‼️

Next weekend, we’ll be at home in London for Unity Cup before making a trip after reading week to Kingston for the Chancellor’s Cup! Keep posted for future recaps 🥶

🔮 THE FUTURE IS NOW🔮

In the last week of September, four teams braved an all-day road trip to compete at this year’s Central Canadian Novice Championships, hosted by our friends at the McGill Debating Union‼️

In between posing for digicam shots and watching Jacky bust out multiple rounds of Clash Royale, our contingent managed to do quite well for themselves. Special congratulations goes out to Erick and Lily for being the 9th Open Team and BREAKING to quarterfinals, and to Kyla for being the tournament’s equity officer 😁🥳

📣 LAST CALL FOR WESTERN FALL HST IAs 📣

Western’s annual Fall High School Tournament, hosted for IN-PERSON for the first time from November 1st to November 2nd, is looking for independent adjudicators (IAs). We have a generous budget allocated to IA remuneration, can provide billeting while space remains, and have a fantastic judge social organized as a thank-you treat for our hard working adjudicators 🥶

You’ll get a chance to see a high level parliamentary debate, with participants who have reached outrounds at CUDC, CanPar Nationals, NAUDC, McGill IV, and other esteemed tournaments!

Make sure to join us at 8 PM afterwards for our post-debate social at 92 Edgar Drive - alcohol will be provided, but BYOB is both encouraged and permitted 🥶

🌟 WESTERN IV 2025 - A STAR-STUDDED AFFAIR 🌟

One of North America’s premier debate competitions is BACK and better than ever before‼️

Taking place October 11–12, 2025, Western IV promises world-class competition with an all-star CA team, a well-compensated judge pool, and breaks available for Open, ESL, and Novice speakers. The majority of tournament revenue will go towards securing high-quality adjudication - ensuring every round meets high competitive standards.

🌊 UWODS X WATERLOO - THE TAKEOVER 🌊

From June 21st to 22nd, we sent a grand total of SEVENTEEN of our club’s finest to compete at the inaugural Waterloo IV tournament, hosted by our friends at the Waterloo Debate Society‼️

Despite a scorching heat wave and some desperate attempts to find free parking, UWODS came out on top at the end. Show love to your favorite debaters and judges for their perseverance, positive attitudes, and above all - their relentless commitment to CRUSHING the competition 💪

🔊 SUMMER HST IS BACK 🔊

Get ready for the WESTERN SUMMER SHOWDOWN 2025—our flagship Summer HST is back this August 23rd-24th!

The tournament features five rounds of BP debate, breaking to Quarterfinals and Junior Semifinals. This tournament is open to all elementary and high school students enrolled in the 2024–2025 school year.
