Eek! Mice everywhere! 🐀🐭

It was a great night of fly tying on October 22 when the club met for our monthly "Tie 'N' Lie" get-together! Huge thanks to members and for leading us through two amazing : a beetle and a gurgler mouse. Lots of laughs along the way, and the group had fun imagining what might bite these!

Our next Tie 'N' Lie event is planned for Wednesday, November 19. If you're interested in learning more about the or in general, come on out!

Beetles and mice! Join tonight to learn how to tie a pheasant tail beetle (led by ) and a gurgler mouse (led by ).

As the warm weather receds, plenty of and are ending their seasons and getting ready for winter, scurrying around more frantically and hitting the water more often as they get less careful or more tired. And you better believe those hungry and are waiting for them!

Well into late (like now), beetles can be an abundant food source. They can be especially productive on windier days, or when there isn't an obvious aquatic hatch to target. Mice and other smallish rodent-like imitations can be a great choice in low light conditions or when fish are feeling extra opportunistic.

Come out and join us for a fun, friendly, casual night of tying flies and telling stories.

Always great to see!

Community hatcheries are working hard to stock brown trout.

Fall stocking allows them to adjust to their new environment during cooler months, when water temperatures are ideal for growth and survival.

October is just a few days away! What's your favourite October Caddis to tie or to fish?

Yes, there are "Autumn Caddis" or "October Caddis" fly hatches in southern Ontario (including Hydropsyche and Limnephilidae varieties), with the season typically running from late into .

These orange-bodied fall giants tend to get the attention of every and , with erratic behavior that seems to promise an irresistible meal.

They are a favourite for fly tiers and anglers, too! Use big, orange and brown caddis patterns to match this hatch. Include options like nymphs and pupa/emergers in early fall, and move to larger wet and dry adult patterns as the weather cools and the bugs become more active.

Bass fishing season opens tomorrow in Ontario Zone 16! Grab your fly rods, tie on a couple winning streamers, poppers, bugs, or whatever brings you luck, and go show those bass who's boss.

Are you planning to get out on the water? Show us your gear setups and share your techniques in the comments... maybe we can learn a few things from each other!

It was a laugh a minute tonight at the bass opener social. This annual event is a hallmark get-together experience for the club. We tied (did you guess that?), tried our best to remember the right names for Canadian fly patterns (but mostly failed), and raffled off a beautiful 6-wt medium action rod. The options on tap at were exceptional, as always, and the weather couldn't have been better!

Did you miss it? Don't worry! You can still join us for club meetings, fly tying nights and social get-togethers when we resume in the fall, or reach out anytime by DM for details about what we do, what it's like being a member, how to tie and fish flies, tips for the local waterways, or whatever else crosses your mind.

Tight lines!
