I love going into the forest, but this is the first sunflower “forest” I’ve walked through. Over 21 acres to wander through.

Seeing as the sunflowers are so tall, they tower over me, so I was thankful to use the observation deck to capture a glimpse of just how large the field is.

If you are anywhere near Markham, I highly recommend the Sunflower Fields of Markham. I walked out of there feeling calm, happy and awed at the beautiful landscape so close to an urban area.

My sanity is going into nature.

Today we experienced a foggy start.

The downside was passing an unprecedented number of people. I go into the forest to escape them, not meet them. 😂 Yet I always encourage people to experience the trails. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Have you met this girl Elke?

She’s worried about losing her mobility as she ages. What if her friends can’t keep up with her?

Her secret mission is to find those people who are too intimidated or uncomfortable to go to a yoga class or gym because they may think they are not athletic or look the part. She wants to give them a comfortable space to practice movement. She doesn’t impose unrealistic expectations of yoga poses. The goal is to feel good. Enjoy the experience.

If you’re into advanced yoga or expect om or namaste at the end of class, don’t come. You probably won’t like her.

Kicking back as my son learns to cook dinner with Alex

I can’t wait to eat a meal made by my offspring and taught by someone else.

Review will be posted later.

It’s worth continuously learning, listening and questioning what we stand for and who we support. Why are we (white people) so against listening to what Black people (and all People of Colour) are saying regarding their experiences? Why do we often insist on telling them they are exaggerating or too sensitive? It’s high time we listen with the mindset of understanding another point of view and find ways to actively change how we reflexively react to their lived experiences.

In case anyone still cares about truth, this is where taking a knee came from. It has nothing to do with disrespecting the flag, or the armed forces, it is about the fight for freedom, fairness, and equality. Thank you Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, and the many, many people who sacrificed for us.

What is one strategy I use to prepare myself before teaching a class?

I pull a Medicine Card and and Oracle Card. Not because I want to predict the future, but rather to get some prompts or ideas.

The Wolf card, which represents instinct, was perfect because it reminded me that I should use my instincts when teaching. Although I have a plan, I do try to make adjustments as needed, based on the students reactions and also whatever inspires me at the moment.

The Frog represents cleansing, which gave me the idea for my class ending. I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do in closing, but this card gave me the suggestion to do a cleansing breath.

Inspiration for teaching can be found anywhere and anytime. Now if only I remembered all my brilliant ideas!

Yoga? Movement?

I get bored following a specific order of poses. I like to spend time playing around and doing whatever feels good. Like clapping my feet and rolling on the ground. If I hear creaks in my joints, I’m so excited that I did something to create it. If I didn’t do that movement, then would my body atrophy? 😱

Specific exercises are good to do in order to reach a specific goal, but it’s also good to just move playfully without a purpose.

Try the rocking that I do in this video. It’s so much fun (for me anyway)

I’ve gone back to writing emails. So far I have sent out two in the last week and the feedback has been positive, as you can see by the quotes.

My goal is to share my process, thoughts, ideas and to connect with people.

I can’t say what people will get from the messages, because each person will find their own meaning and use.

If you haven’t received these emails, you can sign up by clicking the link: https://mailchi.mp/df0c402a623a/sign-up-for-emails

When is this class starting?

Oh! I’m early? Let me amuse myself as I wait.

Success! Had a great class this morning and was rewarded with a happy client. 💜 🧘‍♀️

I went on a quest with a friend today. She heard there was a tree in the forest that was hit by lightning yesterday and it caught on fire 🔥

So we had to find this tree in the forest. It still smelled of fire.

Feeling the burnt wood left black streaks on our hands.

We found this tree in the forest. Our quest was accomplished.

We marvelled at nature all around us.

Construction zone. 🚧

I haven’t been on this trail in months. Looks like a beaver has been busy building a dam. Several trees are down and more are in the process of being relocated and repurposed.

I wonder how they choose which trees to cut down?
