CONGRATULATIONS TO TEAM PSALMS! We had a great final last Monday with Psalms holding on till the end for the 53-48 victory. The first half was a tight affair with neither team able to pull away. Both teams started off slow in the first half missing many shots and getting turnovers. After the first half the score was tied at 23. In the second half we saw that both teams picked up! The beginning of the half was all Psalms as they were able to build up a 10 point lead. It looked like they were going to run away with the game however after Exodus called a time-out, the team in Orange started to inch their way back, with the support of many fans, until they were only down 1 with less than a minute left! In the last 20 seconds we saw some very exciting basketball, Rafi Ashamalla was able to steal the ball off Peter Mikhail and then passed it over to John Gad to lead the break. John was able to find Mike Malak for the open 3 which would give Exodus the lead. Unfortunately it was not his night and he went on to miss the shot. Psalms were able to secure the victory after solid free throw shooting going 4 for 6 down the stretch compared to Exodus’ 0 for 3.

For Psalms, getting to the line was crucial throughout the game scoring 22 free throws compared to Exodus’ 3. Leading the team was guard duo Kero Naguib and Peter Mikhail who combined for 38 of the team’s 53 points. On the glass, Fady Salama lead his team with 12 while Shaheer added 9. Leading Exodus was Rafi Ashamalla who was all over the stat sheet. Rafi got a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds while adding 4 steals, 3 blocks and 3 assists.

There were around 50 people in attendance at the game and you could hear the crowd cheering all night! It was a great atmosphere for SMB and we hope it continues next season!
Thank you all for a great season and we look forward for what the summer will bring!

Stay tuned for pictures and video clips of the Finals!

SMB Semi-Finals! 03/30/2017

Congratulations to team Exodus and Psalms on reaching the finals!

03/29/2017

The Semi-Finals are over! Congratulations to Exodus and Psalms on reaching the finals!

This past Monday saw Exodus push a lead late versus Genesis thanks to Andrew Gad. Andrew scored 10 of his game high 14 points (that is also a career high for him!!) in the last 8 minutes of the game! This included 2 clutch 3 pointers to give Exodus a comfortable lead late. Genesis did a great job at limiting John Nagiub's point total as he only scored 3 points however it was not enough to get the win. Exodus also held it down on the defensive end allowing only 33 points and held big man Antwan Benyamin to 6 points.

The second game of the night saw a hot start by Psalms become to hard to comeback for Numbers. The team in white started on a roll leading by 10 before anyone could blink and at half time they were already up by 20! The second half saw a closer affair with Numbers trying to close the gap getting as close as 9 points but it was not enough as Psalms kept pushing back and went on to win by 15. The players of the game for white were Peter Mikhail and Shaheer Tadros. Peter controlled the game well scoring 18 points shooting a good percentage while also adding 6 assists. Shaheer lead the team in scoring with 22 while also getting 17 rebounds and 4 steals! He also limited Andrew Tadrouss to only 9 points.

The finals next week will be a good one! These teams have faced-off twice so far with Exodus winning them both by only 4 points with the latter going to quadruple overtime!! It also features 2 of the best point guards in the league as John Gad will look to contain Peter Mikhail. Both teams also have a top 5 scorer and a rookie of the year candidate. Ball movement will be key to win as they are two of the most well-rounded teams we had this year both on the offensive and defensive end!

We are excited to see who wins and stay tuned for more info!

WHAT A FIRST WEEK OF PLAYOFFS!

In Game 1 of the night, we saw Galatians push Exodus to the brink of elimination but the team in orange clawed back with a 10 point swing to win it in the dying minutes.

Game 2 featured one of the best individual shooting starts in SMB history as Kero Naguib started the game by scoring his teams first 17 points! He slowed down after that but his team did not as Psalms stormed their way into the semi finals.

Our game of the night was definately game 3. Genesis and Wisdom were neck and neck all that that it took not one, but TWO OVERTIMES to determine a winner! Antwan Benyamin capped off a huge night for with team by scoring the final second double overtime buzzer beating layup! The team will look to carry their late game heroics into their semi final game.

The last game of the night was a tale of two halves. The first half saw a back and forth affair that ended with the number 8 seed Maccabees up 2 on top seeded Numbers. It wsa the second half which showed us why Numbers is the team to beat as they outscored their opponents 38-17 to blow out the game. Andrew Tadros came to life in the second half scoring 14 points including 4 3-pointers!

This leads us to tonight's semi finals! Our first game features Exodus vs Genesis and the night will be capped off by Numbers vs Pslams.

The first matchup features teams who had a hot start to the season but slowed down in their recent games had the 2 worst records of 2017. They picked it up when it mattered most both winning their playoff match in theatrical fashion and thei semi final is sure to be a good one! For Exodus, ball movement will be key for the team. Their offense succeeds the most when every player is getting a touch and picks are being set. It would be good for them to get John Nagiub going as the games where he is hot the team really benefits. On the defensive end, they will look to contain the impact that Antwan Benyamin will have.

Genesis will look to limit the number of quality shots John Nagiub gets while also trying to limit the number of offensive rebounds. On the offensive end, they will look to get Antwan the ball and let him create for himself and his team. Ball protection will be very important as John Gad will look to get many steals leading to easy points.

The second matchup has two of the hotest teams going head to head. They are two of the best ball moving teams with some of the best assist men also.

For Numbers, they will look to push the break and space the floor with their many shooters. Putting the ball in Matthew Salib's hand would be a good idea as he is the team's best assist man and offense initiator. We can count on bug man Andrew Tadrouss to have a solid game for the team but for numbers to make it to the finals they will need a solid performance from Daniel Meikhail and Andrew Tadros. The defensive end had always been a forte for this team and they will continue to look to rattle their opponents with their length and athleticism.

Psalms will look to let Peter Mikhail control the offense as he has been doing a great job breaking down defenses and moving the ball at the right times. It will be important to get Kero going early with quality looks. The more he can space the floor the easier it will be for their bigs to attack the rim. Speaking of bigs, they will look to bombard the boards and put back led by Shaheer Tadros who has had a few monster games this season!

Both games are sure to be great! Come out, watch and who knows, maybe we'll have another buzzer be**er! Tip off is 8:30pm!
