Millbrook Wado Kai Karate The Millbrook dojo was opened in 2009 by Sensei Sanford DeWitt, a rokudan (6th degree black belt) with the Shintani Wado Kai Karate Federation.

As a black belt for over 30 years now, Sensei Sanford is a former national team member who also served as a coach of the team for a few terms. He was a cofounder in bringing Wado style karate to the Kawarthas in the early 90's and now has students with their own dojos across the region. These days Sensei Sanford runs a family oriented, child-focused karate class in his home village of Millbrook. For students looking for extra training, there is access to other Wado dojos in the area 6 days a week... all within 35 min or less! To come and check out classes on Wednesday nights, or to register and join our club, email [email protected]. September 2019 marked the 10-year anniversary of the Millbrook dojo... and a great celebration was held in the Cavan South Monaghan Public School gym!! The final morning. What an unforgettable time it was, hearing stories of Hanshi Shintani from his direct students and those who knew him well and trained with him. There was both laughter and tears as some of our highest ranking instructors recalled and shared intimate memories they had of their beloved Sensei and our founder. Only those who were there know just how heartfelt and meaningful this final morning together was. Until next year…
