Wildlife in the Fraser Valley - in Mission BC, at Mustang Riding Stables! Here we have blacktail deer, a subspecies of mule deer. Black tail deer have a tail that are dark brown or black, and are found along the entire coast of British Columbia. Coyotes are also common in the area and you can see one here hanging around one of the horses at the ranch, coyotes are scavengers and are beneficial in ways that keep rodents from over populating.

At Mustang Stables, a wildlife tour on horseback is part of the experience! We appreciate the native land of the animals and we do not interfere with their livelihood. You'll find a sanctuary for birds, and other animals on the ranch.

The Golden Eagle is a sight to see on horse back, beautiful wings flying above your head is special. The Golden Eagle has a length of 27-35 inches and wingspan of up to 8ft. Pretty incredible.. Their colour is in shades of beautiful browns and gold that look unreal in the sun and is used to their benefit to camouflage within trees and grasslands. Their habitat is primarily grasslands, high canyons and forests.

The Steller's Jay (Mountain Jay/ Pine Jay)
This beautiful bird is commonly mistaken for a Blue Jay! The Steller's Jay is darker in colour with a dark blue/black head and breast area whereas the Blue Jay's is white and lighter shades of blue!
The Steller's Jay is the provincial bird for British Columbia and we see lots of them at Mustang Riding Stables. Their wingspan is about 19 inches and body length is about 12 inches. Their habitat is mainly in higher elevated forested areas and in the autumn they are known to migrate to urban areas and lower elevation.

Their habitat is within mountains and forested area, they can be found by salmon streams and estuaries and they enjoy open fields in grasslands.
