π°οΈ A LITTLE DANCE HISTORY: THE SAVOY BALLROOM
Imagine a ballroom so famous that dancers travelled across New York just to experience its dance floor. β¨
When the Savoy Ballroom opened in Harlem in 1926, it became a major centre for social dancing and live jazz. Unlike many venues of its era, the Savoy welcomed everyone, creating a space where talent and creativity could flourish. ππΊ
The ballroom became closely associated with the Lindy Hop and the Swing Era. Dancers challenged one another, developed new movements, and responded to the incredible live bands performing there. πΆ
The Savoy eventually closed in 1958, but its influence on Swing dancing and dance culture continues today.
If you could travel back in time to attend one legendary dance venue, would the Savoy be on your list? π·
