Changes at range

When next out to the range you will see a few changes. The storage shed has been moved to the end of the driveway to the handgun range, and a pit (on the left) has been dug for the construction of a new outhouse. Gravel has also been spread on the lane.

Update on Codiac

As members know, the MFGA sponsored a lead-poisoned bald eagle at the Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. She had inoperable lead shotgun pellets embedded in her shoulder preventing her release to the wild.

Codiac continues to be an excellent teacher for the younger birds and is a testament to resilience and determination. She is a strong flier in the Flyway which helps motivate the younger birds on their own rehabilitation journeys!

Codiac continues to be camera shy - which is a good thing because it's an expression of wanting to stay away from humans, an excellent lesson for the youngsters. Here are a few recent photos.

What does AI say about Aperture sights

Here is what AI says aperture/peep sights. One of the web sites cited was the Skinner web site among a few others. As we all know, peeps use a rear disc or aperture with a small hole that forces the eye to automatically center the front post, providing faster target acquisition, greater accuracy, and a wider field of view than standard open notch or buckhorn sights.

What are the advantages? 1.Natural Alignment: Your brain and eye automatically center the front sight inside the rear aperture ring without conscious effort. 2.Increased Depth of Field: The small hole acts like a camera iris, sharpening both the target and the front post. 3.Better for Aging Eyes: By restricting peripheral light rays, it reduces the blur effect and helps older shooters focus on the front sight. 4.Maximum Field of View: Unlike a bulky scope or a notched rear blade, the thin ring leaves the target completely unblocked. 5.Speed in Low Light: Larger "ghost ring" apertures allow rapid target tracking in dim woods.

On Saturday July 18th a group of Scouts Canada Rovers had an awesome time firing different types of fi****ms at the Moncton Fish and Game Association range. Some of the Rovers had their PALs, and this event gave them a chance to get some practical experience. The MFGA was pleased to host the Rovers. Thanks to JR, Gerry and Shawn who served as Range Officers.

🦃 New Brunswick's wild turkey hunting season is getting longer!

An extra week has been added to the annual hunt, which will now run for three full weeks starting the first Monday in May.

Guest Speaker at Dec1st Annual General Meeting

Mr. James Foster, former reporter for the Times & Transcript newspaper, and avid
outdoorsman, was MF&GA’s guest speaker for the evening. Presenting his experiences with his favorite prey, coyotes, Jim went into great detail covering all aspects of the hunt, from stalking, to camouflage, intelligence and speed of the coyote, best time of day and year to hunt, and baiting practices. Jim’s style and pace of speech was quite engaging, and his approximately 40 minutes on the floor seemed to fly by, and whether on an old hunting story about past experiences or giving advice on proper gear to wear in the field he had the attention of the room.

NB Power has had a contractor clearing trees under the hydro line right of way along Victoria Road. It is easy to miss the range driveway as some landmark trees are gone. Improved visibility when exiting however.
