Bowling for belonging: Cricket as a tool for social integration among immigrants in Canada Cricket is more than just a sport; it helps immigrants connect, build friendships, and integrate into Canadian society.

Timeline of Events

1. January 20th – A group of co-opted exec members demand for a snap election after I start adding the members who were wrongfully kicked out or asked to leave Alpha CC. These members without reviewing the club’s constitution, mistakenly treat a policy agreement with Cricket Quebec (CQ) as the constitution. They proceed to post a templated election call. On the same day, the former secretary verbally abuses me over the phone, escalating the situation. Despite this, they move forward with their election plans.

2. January 20th – I email the Secretary and President of CQ, informing them that all further communication should be directed to me and the newly co-opted secretary.

3. January 21st – CQ’s Secretary suspends Alpha Cricket Club’s membership. I refute their false claims and provide evidence of my official registration as the club’s president with both the city and the association.

4. January 28th – The CQ Secretary pressures me to add certain co-opted members to the REQ (Quebec Enterprise Register) and falsify government records. I refuse. In response, CQ revokes the club’s membership.

5. February 9th – Former members, with the involvement of CQ’s Vice President, conduct an unauthorized election. They claim leadership over Alpha Cricket Club, document meeting minutes, and even attempt to register a new club under the same name. They threaten to continue this unless I add them to the REQ with the city. Their argument is based on the mistaken belief that the club’s policy document is its constitution. I formally refute their actions.

6. Ongoing – I continue challenging these actions, regularly informing CQ’s President, Secretary, and Board members that their decisions are baseless and illegitimate.

7. March 7th – I submit the delegation list for the upcoming CQ Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for March 22nd.

8. March 20th – In an email, Mr. Charles states that Alpha Cricket Club’s membership will remain revoked and that I am not welcome at the AGM due to my ongoing legal dispute with CQ.

Alpha Cricket Club Stands Firm Amid Unfair Tactics.

Alpha Cricket Club operates based on its own constitution, which governs the organization. When the club was formed, I was the only elected executive, with clear evidence and witnesses to support this. Everyone else was co-opted into their roles.

Some individuals who have now formed a new club, Montreal Royals, were influenced and enticed with the promise of playing in a higher division (you will see this reflected in the upcoming SAGM), with the added condition of removing me from my executive position of which none of the co-opted members have the authorith on.

In an unprecedented move, Cricket Quebec sent their executive to oversee elections for Alpha—despite having no authority over the internal matters of any association. This election was orchestrated by certain individuals and falsely legitimized by the VP of Cricket Quebec.

To make matters worse, the same VP who oversaw the disputed elections also chaired the AGM meeting yesterday, from which I was deliberately excluded. Security was even put in place to prevent me from entering. This deliberate attempt to silence and remove me from the organization exposes the lengths to which some are willing to go to consolidate power while disregarding democratic principles.

Hopefully, the new club’s president takes the time to understand what a constitution truly means, rather than being consumed by a thirst for power. A successful career should not be overshadowed by an obsession with control.

No matter the tactics used, Alpha Cricket Club will remain Alpha—it’s here to stay.
