//CONTENT//

Friends! Our neighbourhoods have been blanketed in fluffy soft water crystals! Come on out and play around in the snow with us! Warmups and creative
movement exercises drawn from contemporary & improvisational dance
practices, performance art & clown, yoga & Qi Gong, and more, to keep us
toasty and together through the dark and snowy months. The focus of the
class is on the interconnection between our sensorial selves--a physical and
imaginative relationship--with the surrounding outdoor snowscape. Classes
place our direct relationship with the elements and our lived environment at the
forefront: a warm bath in the sun; a wind duet with a tree; a trampoline dance
with the ground. All are welcome, come as you are. No previous dance or
movement practice experience necessary, just an attitude of exploration and
play.

//ACCESSIBILITY//

Our priority is sharing accessible exercises with the intention to invite
participants into a flow of adaptation that meets their bodies and experiences,
desires and abilities. Partner or group exercises are sometimes proposed, but
always optional, and choosing to participate otherwise is welcomed at all
times. Instructions are verbal with some demonstrations where appropriate. Questions and vocal participation from students are welcome throughout the
class, though this form of participation is not required if not desired. Responsibility is shared for maintaining an environment that is held with the
intention of co-creating as safe a space as possible for all participants. Dress well, warmly and waterproofed! We will be outdoors for
the duration of the class. Please feel free to be in touch regarding any specific

From the SW corner of St-Laurent and Bellechasse, head up the stairs to the
Parc du réseau vert and turn right along the path in the direction of the Home
Depot. You’ll find us dancing around at a bench amongst the trees, sculptures,
and cross-country ski paths. These classes are situated in Tiotià:ke, which is the traditional meeting place of
many First Nations, and the unceded territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka, who are
the rightful caretakers of these lands and waters. As two teachers of white
settler origin, our intention is to guide our offering in reverence to the land and
with respect to the diverse Indigenous peoples who call this place home.


//BIO//

Aurora Prelević (she/elle) is a movement and performance artist, a teacher of
somatics, a writer, and a practicing herbalist. Born in Tiotià:ke / Montréal, she is
the first generation of her family born on this land and carries strong Yugoslav /
Balkan roots. Her extensive background in yoga, meditation, contemporary
improvisational dance, experimental movement practices, and other somatic
forms informs her approach to movement as both ritual and performance,
therapeutic and artistic. Aurora has taught regular somatics classes and
special workshops for over ten years in her many homes of Montréal,
Vancouver, New York, and Belgrade, as well as in Italy and in Germany. She
holds an interdisciplinary MA from the New School for Social Research in New
York, situated somewhere at the intersection of memory, performance, and
gender studies. Aurora lives with chronic pain and illness which informs her
teaching style as one seeped in prioritizing accessibility, seeking to be
inclusive of all bodies and abilities, encouraging students to find their own
forms. Connecting with nature is one of her favourite things about being alive
on this planet, and the way that she feels most at home here. Maxine Segalowitz (she/elle) is a queer Jewish dance artist currently living in
Tiotià:ke (Montréal), where she has immersed herself in creative communities
as a dancer, choreographer, clown, drag+cabaret performer, and stand-up
sleeper. As a dancer, she has worked, notably, with Helen Simard, Yannick
Desranleau+Chloë Lum and Ingrid Bachmann, performing locally and
internationally. As a choreographer, Maxine has recently presented a 30-min
work at Tangente Danse entitled “Ad-Hoc Dimension” in November 2022,
where she performs a reimagining of her work as a stripper focusing on
navigating agency and coercion, blurring lines between fantasy and reality. Maxine’s teaching experience comes from an intricate relationship with
learning, and guidance from inspiring teachers and mentors, namely Angelique
Wilkie, Neil Sochowsky, Kelly Keenan, Sara Hanley, Hanna Sybille Müller, Joe de
Paul, Helen Simard, and Be Heintzman Hope. Through a combination of valuing
a safe learning space, attention to detail and always bringing it back to the joy
of a game, Maxine strives to share in her teaching practice what has always
brought her back to keep learning.

Ami.e.s ! Nos quartiers se sont recouverts de cristaux d’eau douce et
duveteuse ! Venez rouler dans la neige avec nous ! Échauffements et exercices
de mouvement créatifs tirés des pratiques de la danse contemporaine et de
l'improvisation, de l'art de la performance et du clown, du yoga et du Qi Gong,
et plus encore pour nous garder au chaud et ensemble pendant ces mois
sombres et enneigés. Le cours est axé sur l'interconnexion entre l’individu
sensoriel – une relation physique et imaginative – et l'environnement qui nous
entoure. Les cours mettent de l’avant notre relation directe avec les éléments
et notre environnement : un bain chaleureux au soleil ; un duo avec le vent et
un arbre ; une danse sur le trampoline de la terre. Tous-tes sont les bienvenu-
e-s, venez comme vous êtes. Aucune expérience préalable de danse ou de
pratique du mouvement n’est nécessaire, juste une attitude d’exploration et de
jeu.

Notre priorité est de partager des exercices accessibles avec l’intention
d’inviter les participant.e.s dans un flux d’adaptation continue qui répond à
leurs propres corps et expériences, désirs et capacités. Des exercices en
couple ou en groupe sont parfois proposés, mais toujours facultatifs, et le
choix de participer autrement est toujours le bienvenu. Les instructions sont

sont invité-e-s à poser des questions ou bien à participer vocalement tout au

Du coin sud-ouest de la croisée du boul. St-Laurent et de la rue Bellechasse,
prenez les escaliers pour monter au Parc du réseau vert et tournez à droite le
long du chemin à côté de la voie ferrée dans la direction du Home Depot. Vous
retrouverez des gens dansants autour d’un banc auprès d’arbres, de
sculptures, et de la piste de ski de fond. Ces cours sont situés à Tiotià:ke, qui est un lieu de rassemblement traditionnel
de nombreuses Premières Nations, et le territoire non cédé de la nation
Kanien’kehá:ka, qui sont les gardiens légitimes de ces terres et de ces eaux. En
tant que deux enseignantes d'origine non-autochtone blanche, notre objectif
est de partager notre offrande dans l'esprit de responsabilité pour les terres et
respect pour les peuples Autochtones diversifiés qui y habitent.

Aurora Prelević (she/elle) est une artiste du mouvement et de la performance,
une enseignante en somatique, une écrivaine et une herboriste. Comme la
première génération de sa famille née à Tiotià:ke / Montréal, elle porte de
fortes racines yougoslaves / balkaniques. Sa formation en yoga, méditation,
danse improvisée contemporaine, pratiques de mouvement expérimentales, et
d’autres formes somatiques informe son approche du mouvement en tant que
rituel et performance, thérapeutique et artistique. Aurora donne des cours
réguliers de somatique et des ateliers spéciaux depuis plus de dix ans à
Montréal, Vancouver, New York, et Belgrade, où elle a fait son chez soi, ainsi
qu’en Italie et en Allemagne. Elle est titulaire d’une maîtrise interdisciplinaire de
la New School for Social Research de New York, située quelque part à
l’intersection des études de la mémoire, de la performance et de genre. Aurora
vit avec des douleurs et maladies chroniques, ce qui informe son style
d’enseignement qui donne priorité à l’accessibilité, avec l’intention envers
l’inclusivité de tous les corps et capacités, encourageant ses étudiants à
trouver leurs propres formes. La nature est l’une de ses choses préférées sur la
planète et la manière dont elle se sent le plus chez elle ici. Maxine Segalowitz (she/elle) est une artiste de danse juive queer qui vit
actuellement à Tiotià:ke (Montréal), où elle s'est plongée dans des
communautés créatives en tant que danseuse, chorégraphe, clown, interprète
de drag+cabaret et dormeuse debout. En tant que danseuse, elle a notamment
travaillé avec Helen Simard, Yannick Desranleau+Chloë Lum et Ingrid
Bachmann, se produisant localement et à l’étranger. En tant que chorégraphe,
Maxine a récemment présenté une œuvre de 30 minutes à Tangente Danse
intitulée "Ad-Hoc Dimension" en novembre 2022, où elle re-imagine son travail
de strip-teaseuse en se concentrant sur la navigation entre l'agence et la
coercition, en brouillant les lignes entre la fantaisie et la réalité. L'expérience
de Maxine en matière d'enseignement provient d'une relation profonde avec
l'apprentissage et des conseils d'enseignants et de mentors inspirants,
notamment Angelique Wilkie, Neil Sochowsky, Kelly Keenan, Sara Hanley,
Hanna Sybille Müller, Joe de Paul, Helen Simard et Be Heintzman Hope. En
combinant la valorisation d'un espace d'apprentissage sécuritaire, l'attention
portée aux détails et le retour à la joie du jeu, Maxine s'efforce de partager
dans sa pratique d'enseignement ce qui l'a toujours poussée à continuer à
apprendre.
