Rego is now live on LiveHeats. You’ll need to register for the year before you can enter the monthly comps. Link in bio. Any questions email [email protected].

Our first competition for the year has been postponed to Sunday 15 February. The committee feels it is too soon to return to comp this week as we are mindful of current surf conditions and ongoing shark activity, including daily alarms at Manly. Safety remains our priority.

We will continue to closely monitor conditions and take extra care on comp days, working with Surfing NSW and Council to support the club.

We are all deeply affected by the recent shark attacks, particularly as this has occurred on our home beach. If you need support, please reach out to a committee member or fellow members.

Lifeline is available 24/7 on 13 11 14, via text on 0477 13 11 14, or at lifeline.org.au.

With great sadness, we share that one of our original MMBC family members, Margaret “Marg” Holt, passed away yesterday.

Marg came into the club with her late husband Rob and quickly became a big part of the MMBC family in its early years. She was one of those hard-working members who kept the club running behind the scenes — ruling the tallying caravan for many Snowys with an iron fist and continuing to help out until recently.

A down-to-earth country girl from Grafton, Marg never sought the limelight but left a lasting mark on everyone who knew her. She is survived by her son Trav and her three beloved grandies, Fletcher, Parker, and Koader.

Raise a Sauvignon Blanc and get a snitty into ya for Marg — she will be missed.

Manly Malibu Club presents the 37th CJ Snowy McAlister Winter Longboard Festival.

We honour Snowy McAlister —a pioneering figure and widely regarded as the father of Australian surfing. Beginning his journey in the 1920s, Snowy dominated the Australian Surfing Championships at Manly, winning three titles, and played a central role in shaping the sport’s growth. He organised early surf meetups, fostered community, and helped lay the foundations for competitive surfing and surf clubs across the country.

This event is held in his name—a tribute to his lasting influence and the spirit he brought to surf culture in Australia.

As Manly Malibu Club marks 40 years, we’re proud of the community that’s grown from the values Snowy helped set in motion—bringing people together through a shared love of surfing. His legacy lives on in the generations of longboarders, the friendships formed, and the culture we continue to foster both in and out of the water.

This year’s festival also carries the memory of our friend Lex—a generous contributor and the unmistakable voice of the Snowy. He’ll be deeply missed and remembered by all in our longboarding community.

Entries are filling fast—register now via the Manly Mal website.

Thanks to all our sponsors for making this event possible, and to Ben Brown for another outstanding artwork.

The legend behind the lens ~ MMBC’s 2024 Big Kahuna

Few words from Graeme Gilmer:
“Received the Kahuna award at Manly Malibu Boardriders Club this year.
This is a significant achievement for me as the club has acknowledged my welcome contribution through the photography which is how I can best show my lifelong interest and participation in the sport.
It all started in 1964 watching the World Championships at North Steyne, the same year I joined Manly Surf Club Nippers.
My friend Peter Hark across the road in Wentworth Street had a board we shared, and later one of my cousins in Curlie gave me an old log from under the house. I was never a great surfer but spent lots of time hanging around the factories in Brookvale seeing how the boards were made, and then making a few of my own.
The term Kahuna is to be used to acknowledge someone as the most skilled in the group.
I am proud to accept this trophy from a group of like minded people who I respect.”
