Last National Championships, True Grit became the first team in Canadian history to three-peat in the 24U mixed standard category. 🥇🥇🥇

We wanted to highlight our accomplishments over the past few years with a small commemoration of our time at Nationals from 2023 to 2025.

We honestly couldn’t have done it without every member of our team, past and present, and our coaches for their guidance and support.

Thank you also to all the other teams we’ve competed against over the years. We couldn’t have pushed ourselves beyond our limits without you pushing us to give our best. Let’s keep inspiring each other and continue elevating the 24U scene and the dragon boat community together. 💪

Finally, let this achievement be a testament to our team’s perseverance and determination (our “true grit”) and a reminder for us to keep striving for greater heights so we can become the best iteration of ourselves year after year.

True Grit took on the Canadian Dragon Boat Championships last weekend and came out victorious with a division-wide sweep:

🏆 True Grit: National 24U-PS Club Champions 2025 🏆

Our team worked hard the entire year for this one competition, one moment, one chance to prove ourselves on the water. And, we did it without a shred of doubt.

We not only swept every category at this competition (and being the first team to do it in 10 years), but we also secured a THREEPEAT for our mixed standard crew 🥇🥇🥇. A legacy 3 years in the making and a first in 24U-PS racing history.

A big thank you to our coaches Steph, Chris, and Mike for coaching us this past year, putting up with our monkeyness, and guiding us through every step and obstacle on the way.

Shoutout to our dedicated steerers Vincent and Gabby, who steered for us this entire season and did their first nationals with us.

Finally, thank you to everyone who supported us, whether right here at home or from afar: our vets, our family, our friends, and our loved ones. Thank you for believing in us. 🫶

We can’t wait to see what’s in store for us at CCWC in Taiwan next year. 🇹🇼 Until then, we’ll savour this hard-earned victory and use it to fuel the fire within every single one of us for next year.

As per Mike’s words: “Beware: The hedonic treadmill is real. I’m already thinking about new goals. We fight that by taking a moment to celebrate this year’s successes: accomplishing our biggest goals, and doing so without compromising who we are.”

TRUE GRIT is bringing every paddler in Canada under one roof for one night, for one unforgettable celebration after Nationals. An event that only happens once in a blue moon! 😱💫

This weekend, 17 of our athletes made their team and club proud at the 24U national team selection camp, representing a quarter of the athletes invited to attend the camp. For most, this was their first national team selection process and they all performed amazingly and most importantly learned and improved so much over the last three days. 10 hours of paddling and 4 tests later, they go home having pushed themselves to the limit, fighting for themselves and having made True Grit proud.

Great job this weekend and thank you for carrying on the True Grit legacy Nancy, Ella, Bryana, Mandy, Souang, Alex, Eric, Eugene, Geoffrey, Liam, Mathieu, Michael, Nicolas, Orlando, Ruo Chen, Shung-Kwoon, and Jia Xing.

This picture was taken in front of a wall on which many previous True Grit paddlers signed their names during previous national team camps. The legacy lives on.

Special shout out to recent alumni Carmen who was also at the camp as one of the 24U national team assistant coaches. Another recent alumni in this picture is Bernadette, one of this cycle’s junior national team assistant coaches.
