Sit all day? Do this before you start swinging.
A lot of us spend hours at a desk, in the car, or sitting at work and then expect our hips to immediately produce powerful kettlebell swings.
Before you train, try these half-kneeling hip flexor pumps.
Get into a half-kneeling position with your stance squared.
Stack your torso over the pelvis and keep the down knee underneath the hip.
Then create a posterior pelvic tilt—think belt buckle toward your ribs.
You should already feel the stretch through the front of the hip and possibly into the quad.
Place your hands on your lower back to make sure you’re not simply arching through the lumbar spine.
From there, gently move the hips forward for about 10 controlled pumps per side.
Keep the pelvis tucked and let the movement come from the hip.
Then stand up and retest your swings.
You may notice the hip extension feels smoother and less restricted.
Don’t just stretch. Open the position, then use it.
Strength is a skill.

Hardstyle Kettlebell Mtl is a school where we teach people how to move better and encourage them to move often. We train movement patterns rather than muscle groups, and pay special attention to how each movement is performed, reinforcing quality over quantity. We emphasize and teach the skill of strength and flexibility/mobility, and strive for balance and symmetry in each, like Yin and Yang. Our

Someone asked me what I think of Joe Rogan’s kettlebell workout.
My answer?
It’s okay at best. It could definitely be better.
The biggest issue is the sequencing.
Starting with 100 push-ups and 100 bodyweight squats creates a lot of unnecessary fatigue before you even get to the kettlebell work.
If you’re trying to train power and strength, why gas yourself out first?
Here’s how I’d organize it instead:
1. MOVEMENT PREP
Use a small 2-3-5 ladder of push-ups and goblet squats, and add windmills for mobility, shoulder stability and core control.
2. POWER
Do the one-arm swings while you’re still fresh.
10 rounds:
5 right
5 left
Keep every rep fast, crisp and explosive.
3. STRENGTH
Then move into the single-arm clean & press using 2-3-5 ladders instead of grinding through big sets.
That lets you accumulate quality volume without turning every set into a conditioning test.
4. OPTIONAL FINISHER
Want the 100 push-ups and squats?
Fine.
Put the high-rep work at the end, after the important power and strength work is already done.
The order should be:
PREPARE → POWER → STRENGTH → PUMP
Don’t waste your best performance on the warm-up.
Would you train Rogan’s version or mine?

Tight calves? Try Rif’s Calf Stretch.
You can do this against a wall, a tire, or any solid surface that lets you elevate the front of your foot.
Here’s how:
🔹 Prop the ball of your foot up
🔹 Keep your heel firmly on the ground
🔹 Square your hips forward
🔹 Keep the stretching leg straight
🔹 Gently drive your hips forward
You should feel a strong stretch through the calf.
Hold for 30–60 seconds per side and breathe.
This is one of those mobility drills you can do almost anywhere—even while you’re waiting at the gas pump.
Just don’t force sharp pain. Strong stretch is fine; pain is your signal to back off.
Mobility doesn’t always need its own workout. Use the time you already have.

Ever feel like you're doing everything right and still not seeing the changes you want?
You're training, you're trying to eat better, but the plan you're following was built for someone else. Not for your body, your schedule, or your life at 40+.
That's the problem with generic programs. They're not built for you.
Here's what one-on-one coaching looks like instead:
🔷️ Train directly with me, not an app or a random coach
🔷️ A program built around your body, your goals, and your schedule
🔷️ Real accountability, someone in your corner making sure you follow through
It's not about doing more. It's about finally doing what's right for you.
If that sounds like what you've been missing, book a free strategy call and let's talk about your plan.

Don’t change the exercise. Change the variation.
You don’t always need a completely new workout to keep progressing.
Take one fundamental skill—the kettlebell swing—and change the challenge:
🔹 Two-arm swing
🔹 One-arm swing
🔹 Hand-to-hand swing
🔹 Side-to-side stepping swing
The foundation stays the same: hinge, timing, tension, and power.
But each variation changes the demands on your grip, coordination, trunk control, and movement.
Master the basics first. Then explore different ways to express the same skill.
Same movement. New challenge. Continued progress.

Don’t let your arms absorb the kettlebell on the way down.
As the bell returns, receive that force with your hips.
Think of your hips like a spring.
Let the bell come back, hinge at the right moment, load the glutes and hamstrings, then use that stored tension to drive the next rep.
You don’t want the elbow or shoulder taking the load.
And you don’t want to turn the backswing into a knee-dominant squat.
Think:
Bell returns → hips load → spring compresses → hips drive.
The arms connect you to the kettlebell.
The hips absorb it.
The hips reload it.
The hips power it.
Strength is a skill.

Don’t hinge too early in your kettlebell swing.
One of the most common timing mistakes happens on the way down.
The kettlebell starts falling, and the hips immediately shoot backward before the upper arm has had a chance to reconnect with the body.
Now the arm and hips are moving separately instead of working together.
Instead, wait.
Let the upper arm reconnect with your torso first.
Then push the hips back and load the hinge.
Think:
Bell falls → arm reconnects → hips go back → hips drive the next rep.
That connection is what allows you to transfer power from the hips through the body and into the kettlebell.
Don’t chase the bell with your hips.
Wait for it. Connect. Then hinge.
Strength is a skill.
Power to You. đź’Ş
