During the luteal phase, estrogen drops and progesterone rises.
Estrogen supports muscle building and recovery (anabolic), while progesterone increases muscle breakdown, fatigue, and stress on the system (catabolic).
That means during this phase, itâs harder to build or even maintain muscle.
Pushing maximal intensity here doesnât build more, it can actually break muscle tissue down faster than your body can recover.
This isnât the phase to punish your body.
Itâs the phase to reduce intensity, prioritize form, volume control, and recovery.
Training with your cycle = protecting your gains, not losing them.
