Do you know the beautiful story behind the Snuneymuxw Days logo?

The Snuneymuxw Days logo was designed by master carver Noel Brown.

Noel had been working on this artwork for some time, unsure exactly of what it was meant for, but trusting his creative instinct. When the Snuneymuxw Days Team approached him about creating a new logo for the event, everything fell into place, and he realized this design had been waiting for its purpose.

Canoe culture has been integral to Snuneymuxw since time immemorial. When we’re on the water, we’re in relationship with the Ancestors. The paddle meeting the water, a quiet reunion.

Canoe culture embodies a way of life. Gathering at canoe races and training for these events becomes a profound learning experience that strengthens values of respect, humility, and interconnectedness. Throughout the summer months, the beautiful canoe serves as an outlet, connecting our communities from the youngest to the oldest, and grounding us in our way of being.

Balance is paramount, whether in teachings or in life itself. Maintaining balance in a canoe is a lot like staying balanced in life. It takes practice, focus, and learning from experience. Just as you can't have all the weight on one side of the canoe, life requires equilibrium.

In the canoe (L-R), we have the bear, eagle and wolf. We honour our ancient relationship with these sacred beings and the teachings they continue to offer.

We launched this logo last year, in 2025. And it’s been an honour to have this artwork represent such a meaningful event. For those of you who love this artwork as much as we do, you’ll find it featured throughout our Snuneymuxw Days merch, available at the event.✨

We invite everyone to join us in celebrating our sacred Lands, waters, and each other, during Snuneymuxw Days 2026.
