Starting to smell good round here.. can't wait to see you all this upcoming wknd at the 11th annual Nanaimo lakes derby. These tasty little treats will be part of the pot luck dinner on Sat June 6th. If you are coming out for just the day please remember that the gate closes at 8pm. Pot luck starts around 5ish
I have spoken with some of Dustin's family in regards to where the donation from the Dustin Marsh Memorial Derby funds will be going. The funds will be going to BC Mental Health Foundation. Each year going forward on the Saturday of the Nanaimo lakes derby we will be continuing to run the Dustin Marsh Memorial. Dustin was a huge part in helping shape the derby into all its become including our measuring boards, our biggest overall trophy and of course the capture photo release. Dustin was a huge supporter of releasing the big fish to keep the big fish genes alive. We look forward to keeping your traditions alive for years to come.
Many many thanks to Frank Luund and Real Canadian Superstore for their generosity in helping us make the derby pot luck just that much better. I'm currently working on smoking up some whole chicken as well as poor man's burnt ends which were a huge hit last year. Be sure to come on by site 24 old mill Campground around 5 - 5:30pm on Saturday June 6th for the pot luck.

We are just over a week and a half away from the 11th annual Nanaimo lakes derby. To say I'm excited would be an understatement. We have some mighty amazing prizes up for grabs this year including some Spitfire Fishing Products a charcuterie board from our friends at Livewire Catering valued at 175$!!, a 30 min photo shoot, a 2 hr house cleaning to name a few of the amazing prizes. Tickets are 10$ for youth under 16 and 20$ for 16 & over. Partial proceeds will be going to a charity of Dustin's family choice.
Don't forget we also have the Dustin Marsh Memorial Derby June 6th from 10am to 2pm. You must use a 3'6" and under fishing rod and use the mystery tackle bag provided at registration in paper bag. Registration is by donation with 100% of proceeds from registration going to a charity of the Marsh families choice.
We will also be doing our pot luck dinner on Sat June 6th at site 24 old mill around 530pm ish. I will be making some whole chicken in the smoker this upcoming weekend and some poor man's burnt ends..
Can't wait to see you all out there! There is only one site left at old mill for reservation if you haven't booked a site yet. Site 32 is available, not suggested for someone with a trailer due to driveway.

We recently received some gear from the family of Joseph Guy Leo Perrault. We gave some gear to our friends at Tillicum Lelum some will also be going to our friends at Angling 4 Autism and the homemade crayfish traps are going to a local father/son who I know for sure will make great use of the gear.
The stories the family had of Joseph stuck with me as I get older it's these stories that remind me of how precious life is and how quickly it can be taken from us. Joseph moved out here in the 80's from out east after a visit to our wonderful slice of paradise and never looked back. He was an avid fisher and a brilliant mind witnessed by his creativity in making homemade crayfish traps. They all had such fond memories I felt beyond honored to be trusted with finding this gear a new home where it can continue its journey to create memories for years to come. He was not only an avid fisherman but he was also an avid member of the Ladysmith Sportsmen's Club for many years giving back to the sport he loved. I aspire to be able to leave even a small portion of the legacy that Joseph left behind in the community. Rest In Peace Joseph. Tight Lines!
I'd like to take a moment to thank each and every one of you lovely folk for making all that we do in this group possible. Without all of you amazing people none of what happens would be possible.
