We just gave a terrific jiu-jitsu seminar to our karate family at Brad Jones Karate.

Kote Gaeshi (wrist throw) is like a martial arts multi-tool that every karateka can tuck away in their bag of tricks. Terrific group of students!

Chief Instructor, Sensei Rob Shrewsbury-Gee (blue Gi) was assisted by jiu-jistu instructor Sensei Jax and assistant instructor Sempai Harrison.

Thanks to Sensei Brad Jones for the invitation!

Wrist throws aren't just from stand-up.

Congratulations to Sid and Lucas on their promotion to 5th Kyu -Green last night. An intense grading that really tested their limits. As Sensei Wallace said last night, "they found another gear!". Well done.

Congratulations to Harrison on his well-earned promotion to 2nd Kyu.

Harrison was due to be graded soon but we hadn't set a date. At tonight's class he shared that his work was sending him away to a specialized location for two months and he will not be able to attend class. Ouch!

So Sensei Wallace suggested we do an impromptu grading. And we did. Harrison did very well and dug really deep to power through a really tough crucible at the end; randoori, grappling and tit-for-tat.

I had to borrow a brown belt for the ceremonial presentation. We'll do the formal one when he's back. But for now he has bragging rights!

Thanks to Sensie Wallace (L) and Sensei Jax (R) for invigilating the examination.
