Hot take: not everything in the fitness world deserves a pass. Here are 5 things I refuse to back as a gym girly š
⢠Skipping warm-ups and mobility work š§š»āāļø
Walking straight to the squat rack or cable machine without prepping your joints, activating your core, or working through dynamic mobility sets you up for tight hips, impinged shoulders, and inefficient movement patterns
ā¢Treating core training as just endless crunches š
Real core strength comes from anti-rotational exercises, deep stabilization, and dynamic movements like heavy carries, compound lifts, and breath controlānot hundreds of high-speed sit-ups that compress your lower back.
ā¢Ego lifting over proper form šļøāāļø
Sacrificing range of motion or spinal alignment just to put bigger plates on the bar is a fast track to injury. Clean technique and progressive overload beat heavy, messy reps every single time.
ā¢Using fitness as a punishment for what you ate š
Exercising strictly to āburn offā calories or compensate for food creates an unsustainable, negative relationship with movement. Exercise is fuel for performance, energy, and mental healthānot a penalty.
ā¢Fearing heavy weights because theyāll make you ābulky.ā š§±
Building noticeable muscle mass requires years of hyper-specific, intentional hypertrophy training and heavy caloric surpluses. Lifting heavy actually builds strong bones, boosts metabolism, and creates functional strength.
