2026 Alberta Extreme Sprints heats and main at Rad Torque Raceway, May 9th 05/12/2026

Opening night weekend at Rad Torque Raceway featured the Alberta Extreme Sprints on May 8 and 9. Nine cars were on the property each night to compete in racing action.

Night number one saw only one heat take place as the main was canceled due to a lighting issue at the speedway canceling the remainder of the evening.

The first heat was action-packed and saw an early first-lap yellow when Deklyn Fleming got wide coming out of turn #4 and hit the front-stretch wall from the exit down to the flag stand. While under yellow, Matt Preece pulled off-track with an unknown issue. This opened up the lead to Mat Dussault. Dussault continued to run up front with Johnny Wiersma close behind, waiting for any opportunity to pass him. While this battle was happening, Paul Rolo experienced engine issues that eventually led to him pulling off-track during the heat race. Near the rear of the field, Brody Anderson and Wade Fleming were racing each other hard, with Anderson eventually pulling ahead of Wade and finishing in fifth position. Dussault eventually went unchallenged for the lead and won the only race of the night.

Heat #1 (Unofficial)
1. #97 Mat Dussault
2. #34 Johnny Wiersma
3. #57 Ed Wiersma
4. Matt Preece
5. #10 Brody Anderson
6. #17 Wade Fleming
7. Paul Rolo
8. #49 Deklyn Fleming

Night two saw a car count of nine, matching the previous night, though Matt Preece did not return. The 00 car of Robert Lavalle joined the Saturday race with the AES.

The Alberta Extreme Sprints ran two heats and a main event.

The first heat of the night started with Johnny Wiersma establishing a strong lead over Mat Dussault, which grew considerably as the race progressed. The field quickly spread out, though passing battles developed in smaller groups, notably between Ed Wiersma and Deklyn Fleming. Both Robert Lavalle and Brody Anderson (who had been running a strong third place) pulled off the track during the heat due to separate issues. Johnny won the heat race, maintaining a strong lead over Dussault.

The second heat of the night saw tighter racing, as all the competitors now had some laps under their belts. The opening laps were fast. Paul Rolo experienced a front-end issue that caused him to dig the front frame rail into a corner, narrowly avoiding a rollover and bringing out the caution. The restart saw a hard-charging Dussault and D. Fleming challenge leader J. Wiersma for the lead. Dussault and E. Wiersma eventually broke away, with Dussault taking the lead before a caution came out for a slowing Deklyn Fleming. This put E. Wiersma back in the lead for the restart. Dussault immediately overtook E. Wiersma in the first turn on the restart. Ed then felt pressure from Johnny (J. Wiersma), who eventually overtook him the following lap. Mat (Dussault) then put a considerable lead on the second-place J. Wiersma to take the win.

The main event featured a strong, race-long battle between Johnny Wiersma and Mat Dussault, who shared the front row from the beginning. The first start was called back, but the second one held. Dussault got a few looks as the main event progressed, even trying to use the lapped car of E. Wiersma to get by, but his efforts were unsuccessful. The racing spread out around the oval with small position battles developing. The Fleming team also had a good battle late in the main. Paul Rolo finished third, despite hitting the wall in turn four while coming to the checkered flag. Overall Johnny Wiersma edged out Dussault's hard charging efforts and claimed the first main event victory for the Alberta Extreme Sprints in 2026.
