Joan McDonald just celebrated her 80th birthday, and she's feeling stronger than ever 🥳

Believe it or not, Joan didn't start strength training until her 70s, saying: 'I was unfit and overweight'.

Feeling tired and stuck, she decided to get in the gym, unsure if she could change....and it was one of the best decisions she ever made!

Here are the factors that helped her take control.

Ken and his Wife, Mary, started at The Next Step in November 2010. Each individually working a trainer, consistently 3x a week, rarely ever missing a day. Over the years, Ken had the opportunity to work with many different trainers as they came and went but, he was always eager to get to know someone new. He was a kind, intelligent, generous, thoughtful, positive and silly man. Someone who loved with his whole heart.

Ken, you will be greatly missed. Thank you for always having been a constant in our lives. Your memory will live on through the stories you have told and the knowledge you have passed down for many years to come. ❤️

Our deepest sympathies to Mary and the family, whom, over the years, we have learned so much about and even got to meet.

It is with heavy heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dearest Ken.

Ken and is wife Mary have been clients of The Next Step since November 2010. Each working with a trainer 3x a week. Both we're very committed to the gym, rarely every missing a day. Ken had the opportunity to work with several different trainers over the years, always eager to getting to know someone new. Ken was a kind, smart, generous, friendly, positive and silly guy who loved with his whole heart. Anyone who had the chance to meet either of them know what we're talking about.

Ken, you will be greatly missed. You will forever hold a place in our hearts. Thank you for always having been a constant in our lives and being part of our gym family.

It is with heavy heavy hearts that we announce the passing of long time member Ken.

Ken and his wife Mary keep a permanent place in our hearts. Anyone who had the chance to know them know exactly what we are talking about.

Ken and Mary started at The Next Step in November 2010, working with a trainer 3x a week. Both Ken & Mary always stayed committed but for Ken, no matter how many trainers came and went, he was always eager to work with someone new. Ken was smart, kind, generous, silly and loved with his whole heart, I know many can attest to that.

Our deepest condolences to Mary and her family whom we have learned so much about over the years and have had the pleasure to meet.

We are all going to miss you so much Ken. Thank you for being a constant in our lives over these past 15+ years. Your laughter, love and wisdom will live on for many years.

Oh the pipes! Oh the plans! Oh the twists in the way!
We thought we’d be opening… well, maybe yesterday (okay 😅).
But alas! There are mountains — not small ones, you see —
Of dirt piled up high where our plumbing should be!
The drills go brrr, and the trenches go deep,
While timelines we promised have taken a leap.
The water’s not flowing, the ground’s in a fuss,
And the mud seems to giggle and whisper, “Not yet, not for us!”
So we climb and we dig and we wiggle and wait,
While crews work their magic (they’re doing just great!).
It’s all part of building something brand new —
A space that’s worth waiting (we promise, it’s true!).
So hang tight, dear friends, we’re almost there,
Just a few more weeks ‘til we open with flair!
We can’t wait to welcome you through the door…
Once we conquer these dirt mountains (and maybe a few more)! 💪

Moving Day is Friday! 🎉🎉

It's been busy getting the new place ready but as most know, things aren't always sunshine and roses (especially today out there).

That being said, the gym will be closed from March 12th at 7pm until further notice. We we're hoping for opening the 23rd but we've had a hiccup with the plumbing and without toilets we can't open, but hey! Miracles do happen! 🤞

We are excited for all of you to see the space we have created!

We appreciate all your patience and commitment to sticking with us through this transition because all of this is possible because of all of you!
