Sox Clinch 3rd Consecutive
MSFL Championship
The Sox clinched their 3rd consecutive MSFL Championship last night with an exciting 7 - 6 victory, over the never say die, Lumberjacks.
This game was decided by just one run, as were the other two wins by the Sox, as they won the best of five final 3 - 0.
It has been said many times, “It takes talent, luck and perseverance to win a Championship and be recognised as a good team” but “Great teams are just a little different, as they always find a way to win.”
The Sox have proven over the past 3 years that they have become a great team, as they not only find a way to win, they expect to win.
From the top of the order, Steve Love went 1 - 3 with (a base on balls and a double), Ken Hendry followed in the 2 spot with a (single and triple off the glove of the Lumberjacks center fielder at the fence and 1 run scored), Glen dorrington had a great night at the plate as he went 3 - 3 with (2 singles, a Homerun, a walk and 1 run scored), Frank Farrell was 0 - 2 with (a base on balls and a sacrifice, with 1 run scored), Martin Mauviel went 1 - 4 with (a bunt single), Jim Murby was 1 - 3 with (a key double, a sacrifice and 1 run scored), Mario Busutill was 2 - 4 with (a single and bunt single and 1 run scored), Colin Smith went 0 - 4 but was stellar in the field and last but not least was Player/Coach Casey File who was the offensive star of the game as he went 4 - 4 with (2 singles, 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s, one being the game winner in the bottom of the 7th.)
Both pitchers had a hard time in this one, as the strike zone was miniscule in nature and genuine peas were required overall for a strike, but both hurlers persevered through the great frustration they experienced and maintained their respective composure.
Glen Dorrington was the winning pitcher but his overall stats in this one produced his highest walk count of the season, as he walked 5, had his lowest strikeout count of the year with only 9 K’s, and allowed the highest runs allowed for the entire year with 6 runs against.
With this Championship, the Sox, ended the season with a record of 18 - 2 -2 in league play, a playoff record of 7 wins and 0 losses, Tournament record as Champions of the Orillia Tournament 5-0 and Semi-finalists in the North Bay World Seniors Masters Tournament 4-2. Overall record of 34-4-2.
A hearty Congratulations, is well deserved on their overall performance in 2012 and best wishes are extended for their continued success in the upcoming 2013 season.

The Sox had their hands full last night with a Lumberjack team that came ready to play. Some Sox errors and timely hitting enabled the "Jacks" to jump out to an early 6-2 lead. This was short lived as Ray House hit a solo shot and 3 more Sox runs followed. The game went back and forth until the top of the 7th were the Sox took a 2 run lead (9-7). In the bottom of the 7th the "Jacks" scored 1 more run to get a little closer. With runners on 2nd and 3rd with only 1 out ,Marty Mauviel, bare down and struck out the 2nd and 3rd outs. Every once in a while you need a game like this to keep everyone honest. Final score 9-8. Good battle boys...
