When it comes to processing your podcast EQ is one of the important tools needed to get a great sounding final product.
This device is used to manipulate frequencies on a spectrum. Human hearing starts around 20hz (low) to 20,000 hz (or 20kilohertz -KHz)
We can remove any unwanted frequencies or add more of the frequencies we like. In order to get the pro sounding podcast you have to understand how to use one!

As a coach or entrepreneur you probably spend a good chunk of time creating content to try to engage with potential clients and drive people down the sales funnel.
What if I told you that there was one easy way to make a boatload of genuine content all in one fell swoop?!
It exists! Podcasting.
One hour of long form content can easily be cut up into several pieces of micro content that is benefiting your business, can be posted, shared, liked and brings all that value to so many.
Not only do you now have tons of easily made content but being the host of your podcast humanizes your brand and allows potential clients to form a positive opinion of you before ever meeting them.
This is only one of the reasons I think every brand should have a podcast. Hit me up for any related questions!
5 Pieces of gear you need to start podcasting now!
1. Microphone with a pop filter.
Pop filters are really useful to stop harsh consonants from blowing air right into the mic capsule creating a popping sound.
2. Software
In order to edit and process your audio you will require some software. Some free software like Garage Band and Audacity are great for beginners!
3. Audio Interface
In order to transfer your analogue voice to a digital format to be manipulated and edited you will require this device. Signal will come though the mic into the software though it.
4. XlR Cables / Mic accessories
If you chose to record with an XLR mic you will require the cables to go along with it. Using a USB mic can remove the need for these cables as well as the interface, but with a sacrifice to the audio quality.
5. Headphones
In order to set your levels correctly and hear playback of what you are about to record you will need a pair of headphones.

The second instalment in my series, Recording Basics. This series gives you some tips and tricks to nail your audio when recording your podcast.
Getting a professional grade recording never has to break the bank. Its all about understanding how to utilize the gear you have and a basic understanding of how sound works.
The perfect recording is a series of small steps that you take in order to achieve the big picture. Its like an artist painting a picture, first you start with the idea, then the outline, then the basic sketch, the primary colours, shading, texturizing, polishing etc.
Gain staging is an important step in the process of getting that final masterpiece. Taking the time to understand how to get your levels set properly is an integral part of nailing that recording.

Getting a professional grade recording never has to break the bank. Its all about understanding how to utilize the gear you have and a basic understanding of how sound travels.
A lot of people decide they want to start podcasting and rush out to buy a microphone without putting a lot of thought into what would be best for their needs. They may see others using a specific mic or "podcasting" mic and think its the right fit. Its not always the case.
Microphones are designed to capture certain sound sources in a specific setting. Having a basic understanding of what mic suits your need may save you a huge headache down the line, it may also save you hundreds of dollars!
*I always advocate spending money treating a space rather then dropping lots of coin on a premium mic hoping to make you sound good**
If your just starting out I would always recommend a **DYNAMIC CARDIOID ** This will greatly help reduce room tone - the signature of an amateur.
A mic is only as good as the space you choose to record in..... but thats for another instalment.
