Royal Vancouver Yacht Club played host to the IQ Foil Canadian Championships from June 12–14, welcoming athletes from across Canada and the United States for three outstanding days of racing on English Bay. The conditions did not disappoint, delivering three consecutive days of classic Vancouver thermal winds. Twelve foilers took flight across the bay, competing in 14 races that showcased the speed, athleticism, and excitement of Olympic-class foiling. Royal Vancouver Yacht Club’s Valentino Blewett delivered a commanding performance, capturing 13 race victories and securing the Canadian Championship title in dominant fashion. Huge thanks to Sail Canada and BC Sailing for their collaboration and support in making this fantastic event possible.

There’s nothing quite like this. Longer days spent on the patio in the sun or out on the boat soaking up the afternoon, there’s no better place to be ☀️

A day that reminds us what community is all about. ❤️
This week, RVYC welcomed over 225 special needs children and caregivers for our annual Special Children's Cruise; a tradition that has brought joy to the water for more than 75 years.
Thank you to our volunteers, partners, and Members who made this unforgettable day possible.

The 3rd Annual RVYC Skills Challenge was a fantastic start to the season, bringing together 36 competitors (12 skippers and 24 crews) for 24 races in classic westerly conditions.
Canadian Sailor of the Year Richard Clarke captured the overall skipper title while also leading an outstanding data-driven debrief for competitors on Saturday evening following racing. RVYC’s Luke Ramsay, event chair and defending champion, along with Thilo Giese, rounded out the top three skipper positions.
On the crew side, former Youth America’s Cup skipper and RVYC 29er Coach Andrew Wood, sailing with Georgia Phillips, claimed victory. Mark Lloyd and Ryan Mackenzie finished second, while Richard and Tavish Minielly secured third place.
With skippers rotating through different crew combinations every race, the Skills Challenge remains one of the most unique and dynamic regattas in Canadian sailing, testing adaptability, communication, and teamwork at the highest level.
A huge thank you goes out to the Race Committee, umpires, volunteers, and organizers for delivering a fantastic regatta. It was a tremendous way to kick off the season and a powerful reminder that the heart of sailing remains firmly rooted in great one-design racing.

Last weekend, we celebrated Opening Day, which means the boating season is officially here!⛵️

The day began with SailPast, a long-standing Club tradition where Members sail past and salute the Commodore, before the celebrations carried on at the Garden Party.

With plenty of music, food, drinks, and dancing, it was a party only a yacht club could throw. The celebrations wrapped up with the Sunset Ceremony, closing out a great day from start to finish.

We’re looking forward to the season ahead and all that comes with it on and off the water.

We were proud to recently host our Rising Star Sailing Fundraiser in support of Junior Sailing. An evening celebrating the next generation of sailors and the continued growth of the sport we all love.

We were honoured to welcome Sail Canada’s High-Performance Director Anders Gustafsson, and Canada’s Secretary of State for Sport Adam van Koeverden. We also received a heartfelt message of support from Members Georgia Lewin-LaFrance and Antonia Lewin-LaFrance, whose achievements continue to inspire our young sailors.

Olympian, and SailGP Northstar Strategist Annie Haeger joined us as a guest speaker, sharing her sailing journey and offering encouragement to the next generation. We were also excited to hear from her husband, fellow Olympian, former Youth World Champion in the ILCA and RVYC Member Luke Ramsay, who shared his own path through the Club’s Junior Training Program and Junior Race Team.

Guests enjoyed a four-course dinner followed by a live auction. We are grateful to our sponsors, donors, and everyone who helped make the evening such a success, and for their support in raising funds to help grow and sustain the next generation of sailing.
