Three firsts on one trail work day on Skagit Bluff Trail Saturday! 1. Met two Fatdoggers from Victoria who had to pick up the pace because they were being chased by a ... woodpecker! 2. Saw a deer running, bounding along on four legs, so amazing and efficient; too fast for me to get a video. 3. Saw a plant I've never seen before, called ghost pipe that looked like shrimps on the ground! Apparently they are usually white but these were pinkish.

My famous rake got a good workout doing trail work at Manning Park's Skagit Bluff Trail May 23-24 with the BC Backcountry Horsemen group organized by Kelley Cook. That's her agenda in the photos! For the first time, I had backup with another raker, Vic, and it was 100% better! Raking reduces the risk of turning an ankle (on cones) and removes flammable debris. We did about 3 km and there's about another 3.5 km to do so if you want to help, I can work around your schedule when I go back out again.
The rake is super lightweight and extendable.

Speaking of volunteers, it was great to see that Alaia got recognized by the District of North Vancouver in their Community Report for Spring 2026! She is an amazing volunteer, so involved in community, including races! Congrats. Ali Cherif
