Hello Everyone,

We want to thank the patrons, volunteers, sponsors, and the incredible Hilary Grist and Chris Rondald for making our October showcase a huge success. These two gifted singer/songwriters are tremendous storytellers and entertainers.

Our next showcase will be Tuesday, December 3 and this is our big annual Christmas Celebration where we usher in the festive season with much love, laughter, and joy. We will be showing Don Alder and Melanie Dekker, two of Vancouver's most recognized and incredibly talented singers/songwriters/performers.

We are supporting the Food Bank for this event as we know so many people are struggling with food security issues. We are asking folks to bring an item for the food bank i.e., a tin of tuna, beans, soup, etc., that will help food bank staff support the increased need. Just bring one item per person, that is it and reach out to Yvonne to let her know the number of people coming so a seat can be reserved for you and the guests you are bringing. Super simple and easy. We tend to fill up fast so please reach out to Yvonne at [email protected] or [email protected] or call at 604 726 5277.

Emelle's will be providing an incredible dinner as they always do and where else should you be in Vancouver but at the spectacular Vancouver Rowing Club - just for the views alone.

Doors open at 6 pm and we will start serving dinner around 6:45. The show typically ends around 9:30 - 10:00 ish so come and join us as we look to celebrate the start of the holiday season.

Warmly

Dr. Yvonne McSkimming

Hello Everyone,
I am dropping a line to let folks know we are sold out for our November show and quickly selling out for our December 5 Christmas show. Please don't wait until the last minute, drop me a line to make sure you get seats for Dec 5.
Now, this time of the year when we make our call out to people who may be interested in being part of our Surrogate Santa project. This is year our 10th year helping to make Christmas special for many folks who need some TLC and we just love it. Here is the deal, we work with Hollyburn Family Services a non-profit organization that serves seniors, youth, single mothers/fathers, marginalized people and low income families in the Greater Vancouver area to provide personalized Christmas hampers to individuals and families in need. We do this by recruiting what we call Surrogate Santa’s through our vast membership and then match our Santa's with families or individuals who have been identified/vetted by Hollyburn staff who need some help and big love. Every identified family or individual completes a profile form that identifies how many people are in the family, age, gender, items they need i.e. winter coat, boots, mitts, food etc and also a couple of what we call "wish list" items i.e. movie tickets, new toy, games, stuffed animal etc., and education toys/games. We ask folks completing the forms to give as much information as they can so Santa's can create meaningful and personal hampers. The profile is designed to act as a guide to help Santa's purchase items that will meet the families needs. Santa's are not expected to get everything listed on the form, just what they can. Hampers are then picked up by a Synergy representative and handed over to the Hollyburn Support Staff assigned to the family/individual for final delivery. When identified, we will connect Santa's with families or individuals wishing to do so, otherwise the exchange is held confidential.
We ask that Santa's participating in the hamper project to purchase new items including batteries when appropriate and stick to purchasing items listed on the profile form. To date, the Surrogate Santa Project has supported over 100 families and individuals in the lower mainland.
If you are interested please contact me Yvonne at [email protected] or [email protected] Last year 20 hampers were made for 20 deserving families, this year we want to reach 25.
Thank you
Yvonne
