Always shed kept. Desolation Sound veteran of many years. Perfect trawler for comfortable, safe, and economical cruising in British Columbia. Highly desirable twin John Deere diesels. Cruise 8.5 - 9.5 knots burning 5 GPH total. 1000 mile range. Huge fresh water tank. New Generator, New batteries, New Inverter, New Hydraulic Steering, and much more. Owned and maintained by a professional master mariner. Used as a family boat with regular local cruises all year-round and annual long trips to Desolation/Discovery Islands, and the Gulf Islands.
Grand Banks yachts are well known for being safe and dependable diesel cruisers. This is the most popular production boat ever built, but they are rarely available. This GB42 was built in 1975 as one of the first fiberglass Grand Banks and is a solid piece of functional art. A boat like this is fully depreciated and will hold its value for as long as it is maintained.
This GB42 is in very good functional and mechanical condition and shows the benefit of regular use, constant upgrading and thoughtful updates. However, the exterior varnish definitely needs some love. Varnishing will be a winter/spring project for the current owner (or new owner), and once it is completed will sparkle like new. The current price reflects a $10k discount for varnish and winter projects to be done. Once these projects are completed and if the boat has not sold by spring of 2021, the price will be adjusted up accordingly. Buy now, do the work yourself, and save.

Questions
- Is there a bimini top or canvas? No. The current owner prefers the sunshine and will head inside to the lower helm in inclement weather
- Does it have a radar? Yes, but it is not actually hooked up. It is old but functional.
- Is there a GPS? No. However, it is wired with a new Raymarine backbone including a new Raymarine transducer. Current owner uses Navionics on phone/tablet.
- Is that a chest freezer on the flybridge? Yes. This worked amazingly well until the summer 2020 and probably just needs a new compressor. However, the owner will likely throw it away unless the new owner wants it. This is a Waeco freezer and was top of the line at the time but it is old and tired now. It still functions as a very good ice box. This item is not factored into the price.
- Is that a Whaler I see in one of the pictures? Yes, a 15’ Boston Whaler Super Sport with a 50HP Yamaha 4-stroke (2014). This is the primary tender for this yacht and could be for sale at a price of $10k CAD firm with the purchase of the GB42 only.
- When was the last haul out? Spring of 2020 - full bottom job and zincs
- Why a 4kw generator? The boat has very low amp draw and uses a silent propane stove/oven system. The 4kw generator is only there to charge the house batteries or heat the water when at anchor and is only required for a short while. With the sound shield and water separator it is nearly silent.
- Why is it for sale? The current owner is downsizing into a smaller sportfishing style of boat - trades considered.
- How firm is the price? Firm. The very good thing about buying a Grand Banks is the resale value. The next owner will benefit from this in the long run. The price will be going up $10k in the spring of 2021 if not sold by then. Note: This is the owner’s second Grand Banks. The first was a 32’ woody and despite what people say, it was sold for ~more~ than the owner paid for it after using it for 10 years.
Included
- Spare parts, hoses, belts, boat specific hardware are all included.
Exclusions
- Owners personal effects & tools. A full list of exclusions will be available at the time of offer.-
